    1. [GARDNER] GARDNER-Henry,John,Marg OH 1880
    2. I was looking in the 1880 Census and came across Gardner's as step-children living with John & Jane DOUGLASS. Is anyone interested in: Henry GARDNER- born Scotland- age 16 ; John GARDNER- age 8 born in N.J; and Margaret GARDNER-age 6 born in OH. It shows the Mother Jane GARDNER- DOUGLASS was born in Scotland age 41 and the father of the children born in Scotland. This was Columbiana Co. Ohio Census info from the LDS site (free). Hope this info helps someone. If anyone would run across Eliza Jane Gardner in the OH or PA census info for 1850-60-70, (may have been Eliza Jane Young by 1870) please let me know....I have been unable to locate her with her family prior to 1880 (PA. Lawrence Co. at that time). Linda Whitehead-Gorby Buffalo Junction, VA USA Surnames: WHITEHEAD, HANCOCK - Cheshire & Lancashire, UK FREDERICK, KNOCHE, BERGE - Eikel, Germany (West Falen,Deu) YOUNG, CROWL, VANKIRK, FORD, COX, MUSSER - OH, PA.

Some of the colored citizens, in 1796, instituted at Boston the African Society. Its objects were benevolent ones, as set forth in the preamble, which also expressed its loyalty as follows: --"Behaving ourselves, at the same time, as true and faithful citizens of the commonwealth in which we live, and that we take no one into the Society who shall commit any injustice or outrage against the laws of their country." I subjoin the names of the members of the "African Society." Cato Gardner is on this list.

    1. [GARDNER] GARDNER of Dennisport, MA, about 1860
    2. PD & LE Strong
    3. I have records of an Albert A. GARDNER who lived at Dennisport MA about 1860. He was the master of the "Ship John Bryant of Boston" His children included Sarah Starbuck GARDNER. Can anyone help with details about this GARDNER, his relationship to the STARBUCKs (of Nantucket?), or his ship "John Bryant of Boston"? My sources for my information are: (1) Painting entitled "Ship John Bryant of Boston, A.A. Gardner Master, passing Heligoland Sept 1 the. 1860". It was flying the American flag, and on the foremast it had a square red flag with a 5 pointed white star and a G in the centre. The ship had three masts with a bowsprit. On the deck near the bow was a pedestal about one metre high which could have been the mounting for a whaling harpoon gun? (I don't know much about ships or whaling ships of the 1860's) (2) Two ceramic Jardinieres and saucers with painting of the ship "John Bryant", inscribed "Sarah S. Gardner a present from her father". (3) Brass name plate with A.A Gardner inscribed. (4) Wallet inscribed with Albert A. Gardner, Dennisport Mass. (5) Original Certificate Marriage of Eva Belle Mixner (Sarah Starbuck GARDNER's daughter) & John Leopold von Mioduszewski. 1912/10710R. Perhaps SKS might do a lookup in a book which was written by a GARDNER about the STARBUCKs: Gardner, Will. "Three Bricks and Three Brothers. The Story of the Nantucket Whale-Oil Merchant Joseph Starbuck. Nantucket Island", publ. by The Whaling Museum Publishing, 1945. This book contains genealogical information on the Starbuck family. -- ************************************** Name : Philip Strong Email : plstrong@pnc.com.au Location: Blue Mountains Australia ************************************** Scanned by PeNiCillin http://safe-t-net.pnc.com.au/
