Hello "Listers", I am receiving numerous private messages asking for help with genealogy research. At the end of the GARDNER mailing list messages, you see the tagline: "Need list assistance? Contact Milli, [email protected] GARDNER list administrator" That refers to assistance with the mailing list, not to individual genealogy questions. Being administrator to other "lists" as well, this would be an impossible task. I would appreciate it if you would address your genealogy questions to the "list" and not to me. Again, if any one has a problem or question regarding the "list", please do email me privately. Thank you, Milli Gould List Admin.

Hi, Nelle Epps, Read your note re: William Gardner. I am a Gardner desc., but through Nantucket, NC, Ks, Tx. I am, however, researching the Macon/Eppes/Epps/Eps/Kennon/Dandridge/Isham/Bolling/Sturdivant et al.,, and was wondering if you might be looking into your Epps line? In the meantime, I will keep an eye out for you Ga. Gardner's. Would love to hear from you. Thanks. List, I'm searching for information on my great aunt, Louisiana (Lou) Nancy Gardner, b Nov 13, 1874 in Blount Co, TN. Her father was Matthew Asbury Gardner s/o Wm Gardner s/o Thomas Michael Gardner b 1786 NC or SC. Lou Gardner married without approval from her father and moved to Hamilton Co, Ohio, probably around 1900. I don't know who she married or if she had any children. Does anyone out there have a Lou (Nancy Louisiana) Gardner in their tree who fits this description? I would love to bring this branch into the family tree. Mary Jane

Looking for the parents of William J. Gardner (born 1833 Madison Co. GA and died 1885 in Morgan Co., GA). Brother, James Monroe Gardner (born 1848 Stewart Co., GA died 1928 Putnam Co., GA). Father died circa 1848 and Mother 1850. No given names confirmed. Joyce McCorkle
Do you know anything about the Isaac Gardner who married Nancy Culp? I take it from your info that he was born in Maryland or Virgina in the mid 1700's. Is this correct? My Gardner is Mary, daughter of Isaac born in Ohio March 2, 1824 (g- grandmother). That is all I know about her birth family. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charles Norman" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 03, 2001 12:06 PM Subject: Re: [GARDNER] Gardner brickwall in MD > > It's good to hear from you. Have you check with the historical societies in the areas where they were born, raised etc? I also think my great grandmother had Native American blood in her from a picture I have of her. My cousin who I'd not seen for a long time looked at it when my mom was alive and said: Gee, aunt Dorothy, she sure looks like she's Native American." I'd never thought of it until he said that and I just believe he is right. I have a picture I could send. Do you have any pictures? Thanks for writing, Susan
All were born in London, came to US ca. 1839 with parents George and Elizabeth Ann (Pilcher) Gardner. Family were wigmakers but became barbers and hairdressers when wigs went out of style. Boys moved to various parts of the US and disappeared as follows: Robert George aka George Robert-had a shop in NYC in the 1850s, may have become a deguerotypist. Thomas-inherited his father's New Haven business in 1882 but moved to Wellington, KA abt. 1887 with wife Ellen and daughter Fannie. Frederick may have been a house painter. He married Ella ? in MO abt. 1858 and came back to New Haven for a while. Henry-little known about him. Lived and worked with his father in the 1860s then disappeared but mentioned in his father's 1882 will. Most of them were married several times. If anyone rings a bell write for details. Norman Parker [email protected]
Sue, I have tried several times to obtain information about my grandfather, Cleve Gardner, born July 1879 according to Social Security Death index and died in Pittsburgh Co., Oklahoma in 1950, about the time I was born. Grandma said he was full blood Choctaw (from his pictures, he sure looked it), and supposedly ran away from home in Mississippi when he was 12. My grandmother was Lou Reading Gardner. I'm not sure when they married. My dad, Tom Gardner, was born Dec. 25th, 1912 in Yelleville, Ark, and died Nov. 29th, 1959 in Oklahoma City. It's probably not the same family of Gardners, but the Mississippi/Arkansas/Oklahoma trail was similar, and the time frames were also about the same. I posted several times last year with absolutely no results. Your story renewed my hope a tiny bit. I wish I had more time to pursue this search. Thanks Kelly "Mac" Gardner Tulsa

Hi Don, I received a copy of Gardner information complied by J. Lester Myers who taught music at Ithaca College. Here is what it says: "We are very fortunate to have found an excellent record on the orgin and early history of the Gardner family, written by George Gardner (son of Wm. Gardner) and made into a book by his son Hector R. Gardner (1877-1963) including their family history. Concerning the early Gardners it reads as follows;- 'They were Revolutionary stock. Gardners came from Germany in about 1640, settling on Long Island and living there until 1765, during which time James (the father of Abraham) was born. (12/1733-2/1/1829). About they moved to a farm in Scranton, Pa. where great mines of anthracite were later found. Abraham was born there (12/1783-4/10/1861).'" I know nothing about the book but would sure like to find a copy. Gordon
