Hello, I am searching my Mothers siblings. Are there any Gardners out there from Billerica, Mass. Grandmother was Lilith Gibbs and Grandfather was Arthur R. Gardner. Grandfather was born (as far as I know) somewhere in Canada. Any tips on how I might pursue his birth certificate? Any help much appreciated. Linda

I don't know if I can help you, but there are several things that I noticed. I have a Gardner family that was living just across the Ohio River from Cabell County, WV. They were in Lawrence County, Ohio. I have seen America's name several times, and tried to tie her in to my family - Thomas Gardner who married Chloe Gillett. They had 11 children who mostly stayed in Lawrence County, but several lived in Cabell County for a while. Also, General Putnam is Rufus Putnam, and he was instrumental in surveying Ohio and setting up townships in Ohio. There is a lot of information about him out there. I too have a family note. Mine states that Thomas Gardner, at a young age, lived with Rufus Putnam, or possibly a brother of his. Anyway, good luck! - Jean Griesan > ---------- > From: [email protected][SMTP:[email protected]] > Reply To: [email protected] > Sent: Tuesday, April 03, 2001 10:56 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [GARDNER] JOSEPH GARDNER, 1774, Boston Mass to Greenup KY > > I am looking for the parents of Joseph Gardner, The information that I > have > from family papers that have been passed down is the following: > Joseph Gardner b- March 17, 1774, Boston, Mass. a sea-ferring man, owned > his > own ship, a descendant of Thomas Gardner whose ship, the Zouch Phenix, > landed > at Cape Ann, Mass. in 1624. The Cleveland (Ohio) Necrology File, a collection of paid death notices from Cleveland newspapers and cemetery records, has been converted to digital format and mounted on Cleveland Public Library's website (http://www.cpl.org). It consisting of 800,000+ death notices and covering the early 1800s through 1975, the Necrology File is searchable not only by the name of the deceased but also by keywords in the death notices. Users can search names of relatives, churches, synagogues, funeral homes, place names, and other relevant information in this online format. The original File was compiled over a period of years in the Library and consisted of the death notices clipped and pasted onto individual index cards. In the 1970's, the File was microfilmed to preserve the content of the death notices. The new digital format enables users to access this important information either in the Library or on personal computers. This resource will be of great value to those doing research on family or Greater Cleveland history.
