Bob, Wow! 100 lines. How do you keep up? David's brother, William "Bill" Gardner is my gggrandf. I've been trying to find Thomas Michael's parents for years. I grew up in Knoxville and my mother grew up in Friendsville (Blount Co, TN) Her father, Frank (Thomas Franklin) Gardner, built the Friendsville Academy and a lot of houses in the area before they moved to Knoxville. What was your wife's maiden name? Mary Jane
David's son, John Bartley (b. 10-11-1850, d. 11-08-1928), m. 24-08-1871, Tressie A. Waller. I don't have any other John Gardner's in my files. Bob
My wife is kin through Thomas Michael Gardner's son, David and daughter Mattie. Father (b. abt. 1787, d. 1869), m. Elizabeth Kyle (b. abt. 1786). I have 7 kids, including our David (b. 16-05-1817), m. 25-10-1840, Nancy Thompson (b. 20-02-18200. Others are: William (Bill) m. 22-03-1838, Mary (Polly) Thompson, Matthew m. 05-09-1843, Elizabeth Grace, Mattie (Martha) m. 12-12-1836, James McTeer, Catherine m. 22-10-1846, James Taylor, Isabella Jane, m. 27-12-1847, George Grace, and Margaret Ann (Peggy) m. 04-11-1847, Solomon Smalling. David & Nancy had 11 kids. I have more. My wife was born in Blount Co, TN. I am working on about 100 family lines. Bob
Nancy, I have a Thomas Michael Gardner b 1786 NC, died 1869 TN. There is a John Gardner in Blount County, TN, with Thomas Michael around 1813. I think this John married Jane Farr. It could be Thomas and John Gardner are brothers, but I haven't proved it. I would be interested in seeing the will of John Gardner who died in Fayette Co,, KY.. My Thomas Michael has a son named William. Mary Jane
Hi, **This message is being sent to the GARDNER mailing list.** The email address that RootsWeb has for the GARDNER list admin [email protected] is bouncing, so RootsWeb is looking to make contact with the list admin. Will the list admin please contact Andrew Billinghurst ([email protected]) so that we know that you are still maintaining this list and please reply quoting this message. List members there is nothing for you to worry about and nothing for you to do, it is probably just an email problem for the person looking after the day-to-day management of this list. RootsWeb transmits only plain text messages, and this worm ("virus") contains binary code. I have dealt with three infected subscribers to lists I admin, and in no case has an infected message passed through the list. However, it is the nature of this devious program that its infected reply messages *LOOK* like they come, not from the list, but from an address that received a message that you sent to the list. I too received an infected message from an unfortunate fellow subscriber to GARDNER-L, and I can assure you after checking the full headers, etc. that the malicious program never passed through a RootsWeb server. It is also important to note that it is not always enough to keep your antivirus definitions file up to date. It also requires that the version of the program that you are running is capable of being updated to handle a new threat, such as BadTrans. I believe you need Norton Antivirus 2000 to deal with BadTrans; Norton AV ver. 5 can't do the job. For McAfee, I think the minimum version is 5.0 but I'm not 100% sure of that. Hope this helps. One should be very suspicious of a file marked with the extension.pif. PIF was common to early Windows systems and it had the ability to change settings in Windows for DOS programs. Actually one shouldn't open up ANY file even from a friend unless you asked for it. Mike
My John Gardner had a daughter Eurydice in Bertie County NC in 1784. Eurydice Gardner married George Grimes of Rowan County NC. John Gardner was married to Elizabeth James February 9, 1780 in Bertie County NC. Supposedly John was born around 1755 in Sussex County Va. My John's will was probated in Stewart County TN in 1842. 1st of all, I didn't mean that the virus literally comes from rootsweb, just that people who subscribe to it, are susceptible because apparently someone who subscribes to it has the virus and if you have posted, they have your email. 2nd, I do have Norton Antivirus. It didn't catch it coming in. When I ran the virus check manually, it found "a" virus but couldn't identify or fix it. I found out this is because it affects different operating sytems differently. I have Windows NT/2000 & I found that made it harder to get rid of. I sent the info I had as a help because I thought it would benefit some on the list and because my virus checker didn't catch it initially. I didn't realize my good intentions would be scrutinized.
Hi list, Does anyone have JOHN GARDNER b.? d. Fayette co. KY. 1813. His heirs are listed as; WILLIAM, THOMAS, JAMES, JOHN and ELIZABETH. Still trying to make a connection for JAMES P. GARDNER b. 1783 NC. d. KY. Nancy
I got an email from someone on this listserv that had the virus too, so I think there's a good chance many of us got it. Here are those links. A relative of mine got it from the ROOTSWEB listserv too. Here is the Norton Antivirus site with a description of the virus and instructions on how to get rid of it: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected] Other have told me that Norton found the virus but couldn't fix it for them (but it did work for other people). Here is another site that I hear has a free antivirus program that is pretty good and helped other people get rid of this virus. http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index.cfm Elizabeth (Gardner) Woolley

No one is getting these viruses from RootsWeb. When you send a message to RootsWeb and they send it on, they send on your e-mail address, too. for instance look at the top of this message it will show that it is from "Joan Best" and to GARDNER and is being passed on to you by the RootsWeb program. When it is passed on it is stripped of any viruses because RootsWeb does not accept attachments. However, my e-mail address has also been passed on to you through this message. It is now sitting in your computer. If you have the BadTran virus it will send out a message to me, unbeknownst to you, with its attachment. There are several viruses going around that are attaching mailing lists in this way. EVERYONE should install an anti-virus program and keep it up to date with weekly downloads of the newest virus definitions. Nortons is a good one. It allows you to chose a program that screens for virus in your e-mail before it downloads it. He is listed in Woodhull (Steuben Co.) NY in the 1850 census as a grocer. He appears to be living with or near a Daniel + Sally Edwards. I know that he marries a Julia Baxter (daughter of Newton + Polly Silsbee Baxter) . Their daughters Alice M. and Susan are born 1848 and 1850 in Woodhull. They marry brothers Charles and Estes Wood from Yates Co. NY .Augustus and Julia show up in 1855 in Naples,NY (Ontario Co.) He is listed as a hotelkeeper at this time. Also, their son Evander Donley Gardner is born 1853.He marries Wealthy Wise from Cohocton, NY Augustus's wife dies 1857. He then shows up in Onarga, Illinois (Iroquois Co) in the 1860 census as a grocer, with wife #2 Mary (Russel) Gardner- I know they have 2 children George and Mabel. Mabel marries a John Mclean from Gilham, Illinois. Augustus dies 1864 and Mary dies 1910. Does any one have any connection . I'm searching for Augustus parents or siblings. I know that in Steuben Co. in early 1800's there are quite a few Gardners. In the town of Pulteney there is Stephen (sometimes spelled Garner), George, James, William and Thomas.. Thomas and George go to Michigan and name changes to Garner from what I understand. I do not know where William or James go. Yet, all are gone by 1840. I keep thinking for some reason there is a connection to the southern Gardner's Hope to find a clue.T. Gardner: [email protected]
