    1. [GARDNER] Overton Gardner
    2. Hi, I am also new to this list. Trying to find this connection (which was my brick wall, now a new one;) Overton Tazwell Gardner (born in Louisa County VA Oct 27, 1813) & sister Permila (there were other children, these are the names I know). Overton Gardner's mother was a Mary POLLY Harris m. Aaron Lowry they were divorced & adopted by his ? Grandfather Thomas Gardner. In documents it says Thomas provided his education & left most of his estate to him. So! I will "assume" it was Mary's father (perhaps she was married before? or Harris was HER mothers surname & on documents GARDNER was left off)? Just thought I'd see if any one who has been working strictly on Gardners in this area, they all seem to be related somehow. Thanking you in advance for any advice, Marti in StL MO

    2. I am looking for information on Pearl Gardner and his wife Margaret (Hacket) Gardner. They had 2 children that I know of: 1) Bonnie Mae Gardner (b) 27 Nov 1913 Ochelata, OK (d) Sep 1982 Van Nuys, CA (m) ? to James Thomas Rhamy, and 2) Lee Gardner b) between 1914 and 1917. They were cousins of my grandmother Myrtie Jane (Kellogg) Loghry and also supposed to have been related to my grandfather Joseph Leander Loghry III somehow. I would like to find the connection. Thanks for any help. Ann

    1. [GARDNER] North Carolina / Tennessee Gardners
    2. It has been a while since I posted but see the subject of Tennessee Gardners and thought it might be time to do so again. My JOHN GARDNER (born ca 1764) was living in Sumner Co., TN by 1820 when he is listed in the census there. He left a will in Sumner Co., TN signed 15 Jan 1828 and proved 1828. He was married to MOURNING LASSITER 27 Dec 1786 in Bertie Co., NC. She also left a will in Sumner Co., TN signed 27 June 1828; proved August Term, 1828. They had two children known to me, CULLEN BRYANT GARDNER (b. 1791) and a daughter SALLY (b. 1795) who married WILLIAM HOUSE. I would like to connect John Gardner to his parents.....clearly one of the Bertie Co Gardners. I believe that MARTIN GARDNER, JR. & SARAH BRYANT of Bertie Co., NC are a possibility. Does any of this look familiar to anyone? Thanks, Toni Cain Moody

    3. Dear Ralph Stenzel, Thank you for the e-mail. You are the first I have written about Mourning Gardners family..I have very little information on her.. except I walk the same grounds that she did.. as I live on Isreal's farm in northwest Louisiana. She was my great great grandmother and Isreal my great great Grandfather. I have learned her father was named Prior Gardner. Mourning named a son after him, Prior Gardner Rogers, who named his son Isreal Roach Rogers, who's son Bernard Harry Rogers was my Father. My Father had a brother, named Murphy Prior.. so I was happy to find where that name came from. I would like to know if Mourning had children by her first marriage to the Sumral Man. I don't know his name. I will order the Family Tree Maker file you suggested.. and will be happy to fill in any blanks in your data for your book that I can. Thank you for contacting me. Hope to hear from you again soon Jeannie Rogers

    1. Re: [GARDNER] Pri(y)or, William and Mourning
    2. Hi Jeannie: My name is Ralph Stenzel and I have all of the information you might want on the Gardner side of the family. I have been researching it for over 25 years and am completing a book on it this year. If you want stuff on the Rogers/Mourning side of the family... look at Family Tree Maker Disc 8 - family #1781. It contains most everything you might want on the history of that group. Mourning was born on June 21, 1804 in Warren County Georgia. She married John Summerall on December 5, 1828 and Isreal on August 27, 1836. Let me know whar specifically you're looking for or how far you've gotten so far. Ralph Stenzel P.O. 3. As long as we are on Southern Gardners, I would like to ask again if anyone has a Lydia Gardner, who was born about 1813 in SC. She was married to Perkin Thurman by 1830's and in Henry Co., AL. They were in Drew Co., AR where she died between 1860 and 1870. I also believe they may have been married in the northern are of GA before going to AL based on the Thurman migration. If anyone has any information, I would really appreciate any information at all. 2. Bob, I have run across a lot of those names searching in Blount Co, TN. Looks like Gardner is the only one we have in common. If you are referring to William "Bill" Gardner, I have information on him, but am getting ready to go out of town tonight and will have to get back to you later. Mary Jane

    1. Re: [GARDNER] John Gardner 1813
    2. John Gardner is listen in the pension rolls of Fayette Co. KY. The list say's he died in 1813, leaving heirs, William, Thomas, James, John and Elizabeth. I am searching for James P. Gardner b. NC. The LDS files have him as being born 1800, but on his tombstone in Webster Co. KY. his birth date is 1794. I believe he was born in NC, but lived in KY., as I cannot find any records of him in NC.. The LDS files also have his father as William Garner. There is a William Gardner listed as receiving a land grant, but after Garner, it says allis Gardner. Our family story is that James P. Gardner came to Hopkins Co. KY. with 3 brothers and a sister. This would tie in with the death of John Gardner. James P. married Catherine McCoy in 1820 in Hopkins Co. KY. James P. Gardner named his sons, William, Thomas, James and John. I am still trying to find a will for John Gardner, but have been unsuccessful. Does anyone know if John Gardner's heirs would have received his pension money. The amount was $249.00. Any help or hints on this line would be greatly appreciated. Nancy
