    3. Sometimes people wonder just how many people are reading the messages on a County List. GARABUN has 132 subscribers! Let's hear from folks about what things you're stuck on about Rabun County ancestors. Rabun Co was formed in 1819 --- very old compared to some counties!! It was formed from "Cherokee Lands" - -meaning it was part of the Land Lottery of 1820. Wish we had that listing on-line! http://www.rootsweb.com/~garabun/ Dawn Watson's page gives much more history about this. Be sure to visit her page and click on all the categories. Many people living in Rabun County drew land in the 1827 land lottery. You can find them listed at: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/rabun/deeds/1827lot.txt (This listing is by the day they drew) http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/deeds/1827/sur/ This listing is alphabetical by surname. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/rabun.htm Check this page to see what is on-line in the Archives for Rabun. We don't seem to get very much traffic, so I think we might need to get some dialogue going to help out new subscribers. January 2004 3 messages February 2004 12 messages March 2004 6 messages April 2004 6 messages May 2004 4 messages June 2004 3 messages So please -- let's see some messages come through. Just ask about the family you're seeking, and you might be surprised who would have information! This is such a friendly list -- so let's see what we need to work on to help others! Virginia Crilley

    3. I'm one of the 132 subscribers. I'm researching Hence Queen who resided Rabun County in 1850 with his wife Nancy YORK and children Jerry and Mary. (In one census transcription, Hence is listed as Spence; however, I believe Hence is the correct name.) My ggrandfather, Hinsey Jonas, was born in 1858 or 1859, and by 1860 widowed Nancy relocated to Cherokee County NC with her 5 children (Jerry, Mary, Harvey, Jane and Jonas). What happened to Hence? Did Nancy move after his demise, or did they relocate to NC as a family. I've searched for many years, but haven't found Hence' or Nancy's parents, nor descendants of my ggf's siblings. But I'm still looking... Rita Queen

    3. Hello, I live in florida. I've been researching the Addis family (William Addis born 1815 in SC) that lived at Addis gap, close to Moccasin creek state park. There are a few in this family that I have not been able to locate. One being John Henry Addis born 24 Aug 1893 and a few illigetimate children that I don't have names for. I've also been doing research on Andrew Miller family who first settled Rabun county, because he left Rabun and settled in Cass county where my Millers also settled, to see if his family is the Miller's I origninated from. No luck with this family at all that would tie my family to his, but I have been able to find his wife Rebecca F. Cheri's ancestry. I also have Denton's, Blalocks, Hunnicuts, and Wootans because I helped several from these families with their search. I have been averaging 4 trips a year to Rabun county to do research and to enjoy the beauty of this county. 3. In response to Bill Harts note........I'm a Roberts and my Mother's family (Ramey) are from Towns/Rabun and other N GA counties. My Mother was raised in the Joy/Lakemont/Tiger area of Rabun and I spend some time in Tiger each summer with an old school group of friends. I love Rabun Co. I live in Hall. Would you like to "talk" Robertses with me?
