Hello, everyone I am new to your list and looking for some help. Today, after reviewing the 1880 Rabun County census for Soundex code P624 (Presley) I noticed a listing for a young boy that might be my kin. My gggrandfather was Jackson Pressley, born about 1833 in NC. He married in 1857 in Henderson Co., NC to Sarah Jane Vess. They are on the 1870 Haywood Co., NC census with four sons. The family appears as follows: Haywood County, NC Upper Pigeon District PRESSLEY Jackson 37 NC Farmer Sarah Jane 30 NC wife Thomas 13 NC son Franklin 11 NC son Montraville 5 NC son Jerallis 2 NC son I haven't located the family on the 1880 census, and I have no further information regarding the last two sons, Montraville and Jerallis. However, on the 1880 Rabun County census, there is a 10 year old boy named Girillas Presley, born NC, enumerated as a servant in the household of Loransa C. Hollifield, in Talhela District (spelling unclear), ED 172, Page 1, Line 3. Does anyone recognize this Loransa Hollifield or this Presley lad? Does someone have the full 1880 Rabun County census who might detail the Hollifield family for me? Is the district "Talhela" a correct spelling? Thanks for any help. I appreciate it!
