Hello everyone, I trying to make a HOLT/BROWN connection. I have a NANCY HOLT b. abt. 1816 in Buncombe Co., GA. married to JOSEPH BROWN b. abt. 1800 in Buncombe Co. GA. They are listed in the 1850 census as living in Rabun Co. GA. JOSHEP BROWN age 40 b. NC NANCY HOLT? BROWN age 36 b. NC Children: GEORGE D. 16 b. GA LUCINDA 14 b. GA WILLIAM S. 12 b. GA MARY J. 10 b. GA JOHN J. 8 b.GA HELDA 6 b. GA NANCY E. 4 b. GA JOSEPH W. 2 b.GA JAMES P. (born after 1850) MARTHA (born after 1850) REBECCA (born after 1850) The next census that I have for them is 1860 Blount Co. Any help is greatly appreciated. Julie Goodwin
Hi list, I was wondering if anyone is doing research on the Forrester/Forister families of Rabun co. GA? I am looking for information on James William Pack b.ca. 1826 TN/NC. According to some new info I received he was living in Warwoman community in 1850. His wife's name was Mary Elizabeth ? I thought her maiden name may have been Foster but it is possible that it was Forrester/Forster/Forister. I am open to anything. There were Forresters living in the same communities that James lived in. Does anyone have a Mary Elizabeth Forrester b.ca. 1826 GA that could be mine? I would appreciate anything. Thanks, Patty Brock
New to the GAGenWeb Archives for Rabun County for August and September: *Marriage Book 1 1820-1850, Bride Index (Groom index already online) *Marriage Book C 1850-1867, Groom Index *Will of William McCurry, 1863 (contributed by Cindy Chandler) Items that were added in June: *Revolutionary War Pension Application of Aaron Thomas (by Marj Thompson) *Civil War Pension Claims for 1906 (by Elaine English) You can access all these items through the following URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/rabun.htm Also, the Rabun Co., GAGenWeb site has been reformatted. I think you'll all enjoy the new Site Map, which makes the site much easier to navigate. Because I was out of town all summer, I did not get to work on adding a Civil War page for the Rabun Co. GenWeb site. I am hoping to start that project within the next week or so. If anyone has information they would like to contribute, please let me know. Anything is appreciated, but here are some ideas: *Rosters of Rabun Co. men *History of Rabun Co. in the War *Biographies---short articles about Rabun Co. men who served in the War As always, we're looking for ways to improve the site and make it more user-friendly. Please do not hesitate to send suggestions, comments or ideas on how we can make the site a better place for researchers to visit. Dawn W. Hi to list, I need some help. If someone has access to the 1850 Rabun co. census, could you please look for James William Pack. His wife's name is Elizabeth. I need to know who was living around them. When I first found them on the census, I didn't check to see who their neighbors were--I guess I didn't realize at that time how important that info is. Thanks for any help. Patty Brock

If anyone submitted entries to the migration pages (part of the Rabun Co., GA GenWeb site) between May 20 and July 18, 1999 and does not see them posted on the appropriate migration page, please resubmit the entry. I was out of town during that time period and lost most of my e-mail. Thanks, Dawn W. Ritchie makes reference to a wife of Sam Hamby of the Whetstone Community over in SC, and the fact that she is the sister of Sexton White of Rabun Co. (pp 112). This Sam Hamby is Samuel Johnson Hamby, b 25 June 1870, and she is Lela White b 7 Jan, 1881, Sam's second wife. There is an entry in the 1900 Rabun Co. census for a household headed by William C Speed, Age 43 (ie b abt 1857) and wife Katherine K. I know nothing of their background. But their children are listed as: Lula 19 (b c 1881) Sexton 17 Jane 13 Jenetta 9 Tabitha 7 Elizabeth 4 Jesse 2 Essie 2. In a November, 1915, court case the following are listed as heirs of Kalvin Speed: John Speed Andrew Speed Peter Speed Kalvin Speed, Jr. Sexton White* Nettie White* Tabitha W Hamby* George White* Logan White* and Heirs at law of Leila Hamby.* Those with the asterisk* were earlier known as Speeds and now later as Whites. Can someone explain this ? mel cox
Hello all: I was born in Clayton and grew up on Kelly's Creek. I get up from Atlanta as often as I can to visit my many relatives still in Rabun. Hopefully, one of these days, I can move back 'home'. Catherine Kelly Parker

It appears certain that there will be required number of requests for the cd to justify the making of a June 1999 revision of the Old Pendleton Database cd. The Old Pendleton Database is composed of the ancestors and descendents of those who lived in the westernmost 3 counties of SC. As expected, event/locations for SC are the most numerous, but most states and many countries are represented. NC and Georgia combined account for 15% of all stated event/locations. This is the cd version of the Old Pendleton Database as maintained by Herman Geschwind of the OPD Chapter or the SCGS (revised/expanded monthly). This database now contains well over 200,000 names (showing relationships), and almost 11,000 surnames. The gedcom may be downloaded from the link provided, but the cd is provided to save hours of download/extract/combine/import time in 3 major genealogy programs (demos or shareware of all provided). Please note the following: 1. The cd will not work with Macs 2. The cd requires Win95 or Win98. The Old Pendleton Database cd webpage has been updated: http://www.shelby.net/jr/olpend/ You can look here to find about anything you'd like to know about the cd. Please do not respond to this list regarding the cd. A special mailing list OPD-CD-L has been formed at Rootsweb for the special purpose of discussion of obtaining/using the cd. A portion of the revenue from the cds will go to Rootsweb and to the OPDC/SCGS. This cd project was not begun until it had the approval and support of Rootsweb.
I was wondering if anyone lives in Clayton,GA. that does research at the local courthouse. I need to find info for any Fosters that were living there in 1826. I am looking for Mary Elizabeth (Bertie) Foster b. ca. 1826. She married James William Pack ( Billy) b. ca. 1826 TN. They lived in Clayton after they were married. They lived there long enough to have left some paper trail but where I live it is hard to get GA research. Thanks for anyone that can help me. Patty Brock
