Two new files are now online. They are both from the Inferior Court Minutes (County Purposes), 1860 - 1869, Rabun Co., GA: http://usgennet.org/usa/region/southeast/garabun/civilwar/saltlist/01231863.html http://usgennet.org/usa/region/southeast/garabun/civilwar/saltlist/08141863.html The first list gives the names of women whose husbands were in service to the Confederate Army, widows of soldiers who died giving service to the Confederate Army, wounded soldiers, indigent children dependent on soldiers, and widows whose sons were in service to the Confederate Army. The second list gives the names of women whose husbands were in service to the Confederate Army, and widows of soldiers. In "other but related news", I finally found the names of soldiers who served with Co. F, 11th Regt. GA Cavalry. Those names have now been added to the index on the Civil War site. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/region/southeast/garabun/ Sincerely, Dawn Watson _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
To All, Here is the latest research on Alfred Dockins born in 1800 in NC. A "Map Guide to Federal Censuses 1790-1920" by William Thorndale and William Dollarhide contains maps containing both the current counties and the counties as they were at the time of the census. Based on the location of the NC county with respect to Rabun County GA, here are the counties that, in my opinion, need to be researched to see if Alfred Dockins lived in them at the time of the census for the years 1800-1820. Alfred is listed on the Rabun county 1830 census. 1800 - Buncombe 1810 - Buncombe 1820 - Buncombe Haywood The same book provides information for census data from SC. 1800 - Pendleton Abbeville Edgefield 1810 - 1850 Pendleton Abbeville Edgefield I think that Alfred and his family are listed somewhere on the above censuses. I would love to have a volunteer to do this. Anyone up for it??? Regards, Walter

----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Monday, April 07, 2003 5:14 PM The Secret One day, one friend asked another, "How is it that you are always so happy? You have so much energy, and you never seem to get down." With her eyes smiling, she said, "I know the Secret!" "What secret is that?" To which she replied, "I'll tell you all about it, but you have to promise to share the Secret with others." "The Secret is this: I have learned there is little I can do in my life that will make me truly happy. I must depend on God to make me happy and to meet my needs. When a need arises in my life, I have to trust God to supply according to HIS riches. I have learned most of the time I don't need half of what I think I do. He has never let me down. Since I learned that 'Secret', I am happy." The questioner's first thought was, "That's too simple!" But upon reflecting over his own life he recalled how he thought a bigger house would make him happy, but it didn't! He thought a better paying job would make him happy, but it hadn't. When did he realize his greatest happiness? Sitting on the floor with his grandchildren, playing games, eating pizza or reading a story, a simple gift from God. Now you know it too! We can't depend on people to make us happy. Only GOD in His infinite wisdom can do that. Trust HIM! And now I pass the Secret on to you! So once you get it, what will you do? YOU have to tell someone the Secret, too! That GOD in His wisdom will take care of YOU! But it's not really a secret... We just have to believe it and do it... Really trust God!

To All, I have made the following changes to the site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dockins/. 1. I added more information about my grandfather, James Mitchell Dockins, and my mother, Mary Elizabeth Dockins. 2. I added more information about the mysterious Alfred Mitchell Dockins from Habersham County, GA. 3. I created a separate page for great grandpa, Alfred Mitchell, and his two brothers, John and James who served the confederacy during the Civil War. To access this new page, click on the Military Service text and it will take you there. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Regards, Walter
My thanks to Dawn Watson for her continuing great work on the Rabun County website. I just found the death of my ancestor William Wall on the 1870 Mortality Schedule. I had found nothing previously to indicate he died in Rabun Co. He signed over his property to his children in 1866 and did not appear on the 1870 census. This seemed to indicate he was leaving the county when he transferred his property. The mortality schedule says he was a widower, so his wife Rebecca Blythe apparently died in Rabun Co. also. got this from another group I liked this & wanted to pass it on ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, March 27, 2003 7:31 AM Subject: Something to Ponder "The Rat Trap" A rat looked through a crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife opening a packag. What food might it contain? He was aghast to discover that it was a rat trap! Retreating to the farmyard, the rat proclaimed the warning, "There's a rat trap in the house! There's a rat trap in the house!" The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Rat, I can tell you this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me; I can't be bothered by it." The rat turned to the pig and told him, "There is a rat trap in the house." "I'm so very sorry, Mr. Rat," sympathized the pig, "but there's nothing I can think of to do about it. Surely someone else will step in to help." The rat turned to the cow, who replied, "Like wow, Mr. Rat, a mouse trap; like I'm in grave danger, duh?" So the rat returned to the house, head down and dejected to face the farmer's rat trap alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house, like the sound of a rat trap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she didn't see that it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital. The wife returned home with a fever. Now everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. His wife's sickness continued. Friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well, in fact, she died, and so many people came for her funeral the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide meat for all of them to eat. So the next time you hear that someone is facing a problem and think that it doesn't concern you, remember that when the least of us are threatened, we're all at risk. By the way, what did ever happen to that mouse that was asking for the help? The End -author unknown

I would ask your assistance in spreading the word about the Stewart DNA Project. See www.angelfire.com/nb/stewartdna for additional details. Those of us involved are descendants of colonial NC, VA, PA, GA, AL, TN families. We also have participants from Scotland, and New Zealand. We have 36 participants to date. I would ask that you pass this information on to any and all Stewarts in your region. I selected your counties as I have tracked my Noah Stewart (b-1785,d-1881) and his descendants through all of your counties at one time or another, to also include other unrelated Stewart families. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Semper Fidelis Rick Stewart GySgt USMC Ret. _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. I am looking for information regarding the KENDRICKS/KENDRIX family of Rabun County, GA. The 1880 Census lists Willie M. Kendrick (37 yo farmer), wife Martha M. Kendrick (28 yo) , and daughter Margaret Kendrick (9 yo) living in Stonepile District. I am looking for Martha Lou Ella Kendrix (1871-1913), my g-grandmother, who married Julius Duncan Taylor, also of Stonepile District, s/o Charles Landrum Taylor and Matilda Vandiver. Julius and "Ella" were married sometime prior to 1892, when their oldest daughter, my grandmother Bessie, was born. Is is possible that Margaret Kendrick is the same as Martha Lou? It seems there were not many Kendricks in Rabun County. It was never clear what her name was, I always knew her as Ella but recenlt saw her referred to as Martha Lou. Her headstone in Old Salem Cemetery (near Lake Burton) reads "ELLA KENDRIX" and the graves of some of her children are inscribed "son of J.D. and Eller". Any help would be appreciated. Also, looking for the father of Nancy Thena Dockins, I believe her monther was Mary Catherine Jones. -Debbie Smith Wade debbie.wade@dol.net
