    1. Gas War

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jackson Jones To: Sent: Friday, February 27, 2004 10:03 AM Subject: Gas War E. Jackson Jones Manager Aircraft Maintenance TransMeridian Airlines Hancock Intl. Airport 1000 Col. Eileen Collins Blvd. Syracuse, New York 13212 Office: (315) 454-9247 Fax: (315) 454-9239 I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, someone has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join with us! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit them in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do. Send this to anyone who would like to see the price of gas go down. Send it on to you members in congress to let them know that we the people can make a differancd in the ecomony. We the poeple have the potential to make a real differance. Acting together we CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE PRICE RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. We the people can make a difference in our economy.

    1. John Martin vs. Andrew J. Martin (again)
    2. Dawn Watson
    3. I have been back up to Mtn. Grove Cemetery to verify the wording on the misplaced tombstone. It reads: Andrew J. Martin Wounded Gaines Mill, VA Died Raybun [sic] GA 1862 G.T.H. Sr. G.T.H. R.E.H. This is definitely speaking of a person other than the man who is buried there, which is John Martin, Sr., born 1815 Ireland, md. 1863 Rabun Co., GA to Celia (Selah) Carver, three children (William, John Jr., Mary Ann), died after 1900 Rabun Co., GA. John Sr. is buried next to two of his grandchildren by son John Jr., Thomas (who died as a teenager) and Govie (who died as a little girl). Possibly, the newer stone is referring to a son of the Andrew J. Martin (see the bottom of this page: http://usgennet.org/usa/region/southeast/garabun/1850/330.html) who was born 1814 NC, and not Andrew J. Martin the elder himself as I speculated in an earlier e-mail. If the person(s) who placed this stone would please contact me, I would be most appreciative. 1. A little Girl's true story
    2. mammason
    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Monday, October 20, 2003 9:35 AM Subject: A little Girl's true story A little girl went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. No chance here for mistakes. Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall's Drug Store with the big red Indian Chief sign above the door. She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment. Tess twisted her feet to make a scuffing noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster. No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it! "And what do you want?" the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice."I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen in ages," he said without waiting for a reply to his question. "Well, I want to talk to you about my brother," Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. "He's really, really sick ... and I want to buy a miracle." "I beg your pardon?" said the pharmacist. "His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?" "We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry but I can't help you," the pharmacist said, softening a little. "Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs." The pharmacist's brother was a well dressed man. He Stooped down and asked the little girl, "What kind of a miracle does your brother need?" I don't know," Tess replied with her eyes welling up. "I just know he's really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy can't pay for it, so I want to use my money." "How much do you have?" asked the man from Chicago. "One dollar and eleven cents," Tess answered barely audibly. "And it's all the Money I have, but I can get some more if I need to. "Well, what a coincidence," smiled the man. "A dollar and eleven cents-the exact price of a miracle for little brothers." He took her money in one hand and with the other hand he grasped her mitten and said "Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need." That well dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, specializing in neuro-surgery. The operation was completed without charge and it wasn't long until Andrew was home again and doing well. Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place. "That surgery," her Mom whispered. "was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost?" Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost ... one dollar and eleven cents ...... plus the faith of a little child. A miracle is not the suspension of natural law, but the operation of a higher law...... When you are worried.....I will give you hope. When you are confused.....I will help you cope. And when you are lost.....And can't see the light. 1. John Martin, Sr. vs. Andrew J. Martin
    2. Dawn Watson
    3. I recently visited the grave site of an ancestor of mine, John Martin, Sr. who was born in 1815 in Ireland. He's buried at Mtn. Grove Cemetery in the Germany Community near Clayton. I had not been to visit his grave in several years, and since I live so close, I thought I would drop by one day. Much to my surprise, someone had placed another marker over his grave commemorating the Civil War service of Andrew J. Martin, who was also known as John and who was born in 1814 (in NC, I think). The problem is, these were two different men. They lived in different parts of the county and raised vastly different families. I do not know if Andrew J. Martin served in the Confederacy during the Civil War, but I do know that John Martin Sr. did; his grave site is marked by a tombstone placed there by the UDC in the 1950s and, although I do not know his exact unit, I do know that his wife, Celia Carver Martin, received aid from the county and state while John was giving service to the Confederate cause. Andrew J. Martin's wife was named Marinda, and they are both buried in the cemetery at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church in Dillard. Their graves are marked by large headstones (Andrew's has fallen over and broken, but it's still there). I can understand how easy it would be to confuse these two men. They were of a similar age and Andrew J. Martin did frequently go by John. They were different men, however (the families are not even related on the Martin side), and my family would sincerely appreciate it if the individuals who placed the Andrew J. Martin marker over John Martin, Sr.'s grave would move it to the appropriate grave site in the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery. Questions can be directed to me c/o V. Watson, PO Box 726, Clayton, GA 30525. 1. God Lives Under The Bed ...
    2. mammason
    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Monday, October 06, 2003 9:40 AM Subject: God Lives Under The Bed ... God Lives Under The Bed ... I envy Kevin. My brother Kevin thinks God lives under his bed. At least that's what I heard him say one night. He was praying out loud in his dark bedroom, and I stopped outside his closed door to listen. "Are you there, God?" he said. "Where are you? Oh, I see. Under the bed." I giggled softly and tiptoed off to my own room. Kevin's unique perspectives are often a source of amusement. But that night something else lingered long after the humor. I realized for the first time the very different world Kevin lives in. He was born 30 years ago, mentally disabled as a result of difficulties during labor. Apart from his size (he's 6-foot-2), there are few ways in which he is an adult. He reasons and communicates with the capabilities of a 7-year-old, and he always will. He will probably always believe that God lives under his bed, that Santa Clause is the one who fills the space under our tree every Christmas and that airplanes stay up in the sky because angels carry them. I remember wondering if Kevin realizes he is different. Is he ever dissatisfied with his monotonous life? Kevin is up before dawn each day, off to work at a workshop for the disabled, home to walk our cocker spaniel, return to eat his favorite macaroni-and-cheese for dinner, and later to bed. The only variation in the entire scheme is laundry, when he hovers excitedly over the washing machine like a mother with her newborn child. He does not seem dissatisfied. He lopes out to the bus every morning at 7:05, eager for a day of simple work. He wrings his hands excitedly while the water boils on the stove before dinner, and he stays up late twice a week to gather our dirty laundry for his next day's laundry chores. And Saturdays-oh, the bliss of Saturdays! That's the day my Dad takes Kevin to the airport to have a soft drink, watch the planes land, and speculate loudly on the destination of each passenger inside. "That one's goin' to Chi-car-go!" Kevin shouts as he claps his hands. His anticipation is so great he can hardly sleep on Friday nights. And so goes his world of daily rituals and weekend field trips. He doesn't know what it means to be discontent. His life is simple. He will never know the entanglements of wealth or power, and he does not care what brand of clothing he wears or what kind of food he eats. His needs have always been met, and he never worries that one day they may not be. His hands are diligent. Kevin is never so happy as when he is working. When he unloads the dishwasher or vacuums the carpet, his heart is completely in it. He does not shrink from a job when it is begun, and he does not leave a job until it is finished. But when his tasks are done, Kevin knows how to relax. He is not obsessed with his work or the work of others. His heart is pure. He still believes everyone tells the truth, promises must be kept, and when you are wrong, you apologize instead of argue. Free from pride and unconcerned with appearances, Kevin is not afraid to cry when he is hurt, angry or sorry. He is always transparent, always sincere. And he trusts God. Not confined by intellectual reasoning, when he comes to Christ, he comes as a child. Kevin seems to know God - to really be friends with Him in a way that is difficult for an "educated" person to grasp. God seems like his closest companion. In my moments of doubt and frustrations with my Christianity, I envy the security Kevin has in his simple faith. It is then that I am most willing to admit that he has some divine knowledge that rises above my mortal questions. It is then I realize that perhaps he is not the one with the handicap - I am. My obligations, my fear, my pride, my circumstances - they all become disabilities when I do not trust them to God's care. Who knows if Kevin comprehends things I can never learn? After all, he has spent his whole life in that kind of innocence, praying after dark and soaking up the goodness and love of God. And one day, when the mysteries of heaven are opened, and we are all amazed at how close God really is to our hearts, I'll realize that God heard the simple prayers of a boy who believed that God lived under his bed. Kevin won't be surprised at all! When you receive this, say a prayer. That's all you have to do. There is nothing attached. This is powerful. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no cost, but a lot of rewards. FRIENDS ARE ANGELS WHO LIFT US TO OUR FEET WHEN OUR WINGS HAVE TROUBLE REMEMBERING HOW TO FLY

    1. BE CAREFUL
    2. mammason
    3. Please be careful when you are out !! A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts: 1) The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or otherhairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets. 2) The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who's clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing. 3) They also look for women on their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered. 4) The time of day men are most likely to attack and rape a woman is in the early morning, between 5 and 8:30 a.m. 5) The number one place women are abducted from/attacked at is grocery store parking lots. Number two is office parking lots/garages. Number three is public restrooms. 6) The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don't have to worry about getting caught. 7) Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year sentence but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years. 8) If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn't worth it because it will be time-consuming. 9) These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas, or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands. Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you're not worth it. 10) Several defense mechanisms he taught us are: If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk, I can't believe it is so cold out here, we're in for a bad winter. Now you've seen their face and could identify them in a line-up, you lose appeal as a target. 11) If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they'd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target. 12) If you carry pepper spray, carry it with you wherever you go, yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out can be a deterrent. 13) If someone grabs you, you can't beat them with strength but you can by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh -- HARD. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it hurts. 14) After the initial hit, always go for the groin. If you slap a guy's parts it is extremely painful. Rapists want a woman who will not cause a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he's out of there. 15) When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. 16) Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don't dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel a little silly at the time, but you'd feel much worse if the guy really was trouble. PLEASE READ THEN FORWARD THIS TO EVERY WOMAN YOU KNOW, IT'S SIMPLE STUFF BUT IT COULD SAVE HER LIFE.

He asked Quincy Carter what it was used for and was told it was a hotline to God. John asked if he could use it. Quincy told him, "Sure, but it will cost you $100." John scratched his head, then thought, what the heck, I could use some help picking games. He pulled out his wallet and paid $100. John's picks were perfect that week. The next week John was in St Louis when he noticed that same kind of phone on the Rams bench. He asked what the telephone was for and Marc Bulger told him, "It's a hotline to God. If you want to use it, it will cost you $500." Recalling last week, John pulled out his wallet and made the call. John's picks were perfect again that week. The next weekend John was in Charlotte at Ericcson Stadium when he noticed the same kind of telephone by the Panthers bench. He asked Jake Delhomme, Is that the hotline to God?" Jake said, "Yes, and if you want to use it, it will cost you 35 cents." John looked incredulously at Jake and said, "Wait a second, I just paid $100 in Dallas and $500 in St Louis to use the same phone to God! Why do the Panthers only charge 35 cents?" Jake looked at John and replied, "In the Carolinas, it's a local call."
