    1. Record of Poor Children 1857 - 1862
    2. Dawn Watson
    3. The book "Record of Poor Children 1857 - 1862, Rabun County" is now online at: http://usgennet.org/usa/region/southeast/garabun/court/poorchil/recopoor.html An index for this book is available at the above URL. In spite of the name, children were listed for only the years 1857 and 1858. The other years consisted basically of a numerical summery of the children in Rabun County who qualified. Since these lists were compiled by a number of people in census fashion, please be aware that the spelling of many names was inconsistent from year to year and district to district. Good luck with your research. I hope this record will be helpful to all. 3. There were actually two Maternity Houses. Before the one at the hospital, there was one where the present parking lot is for the courthouse. It was on the street and next door to the historical society. I had an aunt that was a nurse there and I was born it that maternity house in 1946. ----- Original Message ----- From: <j.ray1@comcast.net> To: <GARABUN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 19, 2004 1:35 PM Subject: Re: [GARABUN] Unidentified subject! > > > -------------- Original message -------------- > > > In a message dated 7/19/04 4:39:21 AM Pacific Daylight Time, > > j.ray1@comcast.net writes: > > I Was Surprised That I Have Never > > Heard Anyone Else From That Time Period Mentioned The "Maternity > > House" ...... 3. If this is the same house you are talking about, the library in Clayton has a full binder of news articles on it. It seems that the idea of a maternity house was quite new and Clayton may have been the first or one of the first areas to implement the idea. Sorry, I don't remember any other details. 3. Captain Samuel M. Beck, b. 1826 m. Martha Wall. They are from Rabun Co., GA. He was the son of Colonel Samuel Beck, b.1796 who married Tabitha Langston in 1811. He was the son of Jeffery Beck, Jr. b. 1752 and married Mary McDaniel in Guilford Co., NC in 1771. He was the son of Jeffery Beck, Sr. and his second wife Susannah Gibbs. First wife was Lydia Phillips. He was the son of Henry Beck, Jr. and Ann Daughtry. He was the son of Henry Beck , Sr. who came to America at the age of 18 from Herefordshire, England about 1617. His ship capsized on the rocks off the Atlantic Coast and he swam ashore. Henry Beck, Sr. married Ann Frost. Now, please I don't want anyone to accuse me of plagarism, this came from the book "Rabun County and it's People, Vol I" published in 1992 and the article was submitted by Dorothy Beck. I just remember how it is to get excited when you find something and thought I would share this with you. 3. Sarah A Bramblett born 15 Aug 1842 married 25 Feb 1864, died 26 June 1917 married Absolem McDonald Teem. They were married at the same time that my John W. Bramblett and Martha Teem were married. Sarah and my John W. were brother and sisters. I have further information concerning them if you need. Thanks for any further help you can give. My great grandfather Thomas Jefferson Bramblett (Bramlet) was born Feb 1868 in Georgia. I know his father was John W. Bramlett, but I cannot find proof that John W. and Martha Teem Bramblett were his parents.
