E. Mitchell of Clayton was killed at Tallulah Falls yesterday by J. A. Lockaby, acting town marshal, while Mitchell was resisting arrest for disorderly conduct. A number of our citizens went down to the Falls yesterday to the Odd fellows picnic and among them was Austin Mitchell. There are slight differences as to how or what led to the killing. It is reported Mitchell was resisting arrest by backing and had backed from Lockaby about one hundred yards. Mitchell was first shot in the hand, and after, twice in the body, and all the shots show he was shot in the left side. One of them perhaps the fatal one was under the left arm near the arm-pit. The whole community here was shocked at the tradegy [sic], as Austin was a quiet and industrous [sic] young man and had many friends. It is an awful blow to the family and the sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved. Austin was about 22 years old. Lockaby who lives on Tallulah River some ten miles above Tallulah Fallsnearing 60[?] years of age. The deceased was a brother of L. T. Mitchell, of the firm of Mitchell & Welch. Lockaby wifed sheriff Carver to go down to the Falls immediately after he shot Mitchell, but when the sheriff arrived, Lockaby had escaped and up to our going to press he is still at large. C. Wall died at her home in Clayton, last Monday, after ten days illness. On January 9th, Laura took two tablets of bichloride of mercury, while in an intoxicated condition. Laura was twenty one years of age, though no more than a child of ten or twelve in mind and actions; but always kind and agreeable with her friends and superiors. We do not believe that Laura committed this act with suicidal intent, neither do we belive, from what we know of the girl, that she is accountable for it, in the fullest sense. She suffered intensely before death, and tried to pray many times in her feeble way. We hope her prayers were answered, and her soul is now with its Giver. Our deepest sympathies are extended to the bereft family and friends. Someone sent me this link on another mailing list and I thought y'all would like to see this. It is a list of 5 maps that the Georgia State Archives has online through their Virtual Vault. One map is from 1867, and the other 4 are from 1820 (according to the web site): http://www.sos.state.ga.us/archives/Vault/ArcVirtualVault/countyResults.aspx?id=Rabun
I've been helping someone on their TRUSTY family in Rabun Co., GA. I'm about as confused as a little bug now after reading several postings on the internet. I'm trying to pin down the children of W. A. J. Trusty, notably one possibly named GARRETT. Could he be William G. Trusty? I'm working to help someone get into the Sons of Confederate Veterans. We find two Trustys in Rabun in the 52 GA INF in Co. F. One is William and one is Garrett. We are thinking that William is W. A. J. Trusty and that Garrett is W. A. J. Trusty's son, William G. Are we on the right track? Please help. Elaine Randall English eng4@alltel.net http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hemlockhill http://freepages.military.rootsweb.com/~hemlockhill

The original message was about John Holloway who, according to family information, was born in north Georgia, specifically in Rabun County in 1800. Although we have found much about his life in later years as he moved from Georgia to Alabama, nothing has been found about his early years including his parents and siblings. I have nothing in my Holloway information about a "Britter" Holloway. Was she from Rabun County? JM Fuller
