I have just received the Civil War Records of Robert A. Moore of Polk County., GA. He is the brother of my great grandfather, Jackson Moore. He was born in 1840 Henry County, Georgia. This is the first proof I have had that they are from the same family who was in Henry County in 1850, John and Hannah Ewing Moore. I do not know where this family is in 1860 but he enlisted in the CSA in Statesboro. Robert tended to live close to his parents. In 1870, he is living in Polk County, next door to his parents. By then, his father is calling himself Jackson Moore just as my great grandfather was. I do not know why he changed what he was called. Robert Moore was born in Henry County, Georgia in 1840. He married Mary Amanda ? on December 11, 1866 in Bartow County, Georgia. Jackson Moore was a witness to this marriage and he attests to the marriage for proof in order for her to continue receiving his pension as his widow. He enlisted in the CSA in April 1862 at Statesboro, GA in Company O Phillips Legion. He served 3 years and was discharged April 1865 in Appomattox. VA. On April 6th, 1865, he was captured and carried to Point Lookout and kept there until June 1865. He was a farmer in poor heath at the time of his application on June 16, 1902 but had been unable to farm or do heavy labor so he "bottomed" chairs and made baskets to "make my way". He supported himself by what he could earm with the help of his wifw and his son in Alabama. (He had a son, William, in 1870. I am unaware of any other children.) Robert Moore died in Polk County on September 12, 1908. His wife, Mary Amanda Moore died on May 27, 1933 in Polk County, GA. The siblings of Robert are a little confusing but he had a sister, Sarah A. Moore who married Millard Hitchcock in Polk County and a brother, William who married Ida Wilson; a borhter Owens Moore who married Samantha Wilson; a brother John Moore who married Mattie Treadway; a brother Jackson More who married Jospehine Kinney; a sister Frances and either a brother James or a sister Jane (or both!).
