Knowing that my family lived in what is now the Antioch community during a period that showed them as being in "Yellow Stone" has always meant to me that Antioch is, indeed, the present location of what was once Yellow Stone. The E. D. Hightower, postmaster of Yellow Stone, 1850-52, was my direct ancestor; some of my family still live on the land he owned. My Carter ancestors also lived in Yellow Stone, according to that census; I know that they lived "just up the road" from the Hightowers. According to an article published in the Cedartown paper in the early 1900's, Yellow Stone had become "Shades"....the article was about a party at the Hightower home in Shades. I don't know at what point it was renamed Antioch; but that's a quick "history" of the community name, which is located between Rockmart and Cedartown in Polk County. Alice Carter Sheppard
