Hi D.Scott, I have an aunt, Evelyn Irene Harris b: 1914/1915 who married a Joe L. Smith in Etowah CO. AL. they married around 1930-1940 and moved to Dallas TX. We had very little comunication with my aunt so I have very little information on them. I have been to Cedartown many times. My mother was raised in two different children's homes there. There is a small but helpful research room in the Cedartown Library. If you go to the yellow pages on line and feed in these addresses you will get a turn by turn map from your home to each of these distinations.. Here are some places with address I found very helpful: Cedartown Library, 245 East Ave. Cedartown GA. tel: 770-748-5644; Polk CO. Court House, 100 Prior STreet, Cedartown GA. ( they allow you freedom to look for records for yourself and then they charge abt $2 a copy) ; Polk Co Historical Society, 205 N. College ST. Cedartown GA.; they are just about around the corner from the Library. the first home my mother was in was on College Street.: and there is a College Street School that began before the turn of the century! there is a large cemetery just outside Cedartown, don't have the address but here is the tel. # 770-748-8320. And Rome Library GA, about 15 minutes north of Cedartown contains a lot of records for Polk CO it is the Rome/Floyd CO. Library, 205 Riverside Parkway Rome GA; (706) 236-4604; By the way the famous Harpst Children's Home in Cedartown is Haveing a re-union this July; all with any connections to the Home are welcome.
