Hi, I am a 1961 gradute of Cedartown High School. For the past several years I have been able to trace my ancestors to Rev. Elias A. Camp, see obit in Cedartown Standard Oct 1901. It claims he is the son of James Camp b. 1740 in Rutherford, County, Nc and died in the 1820's In Gwinette, Co. Georgia after siring at a very old age Elias who moved to Paulding County then to Polk County and was a Pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church. His son Columbus is my gg grandfather confirmed by the 1910 and 1920 census. His son Columbus Davenport Camp was my grandfather whom i vaguely remember who owned a sawmill in Relay on the polk/floyd county line. I noted this connection in a recent post but with no replys. I left Cedartown after graduation and am now a retired broadcast journalist living in Colorado. With the exception of the questionable James Camp, I have mostly completed my Polk County Connections with the exception of 4 Harris Children listed as nieces and nephews living with my grand father in the 1910 Census and a Lizzie Valentine (probably nee Harris) in the 1920 census. and a great nephew Valentine also living there. It seems that a daugher, unknown, of Columbus Camp married this Harris and then died leaving the children with my grandfather and gg grandfather. This is my brickwall and i really want to know who these folks were.My grandfather Columbus Davenport Camp was the station master for the Central of Georgia Railroad at Relay and a Justice of the peace in Floyd County. Thanks to the hard work and research of a Mr. Drummond and a Mr. Atkins my ties to Polk county are well documented and it seems I must me related to most everyone in the County.Their exhastive work is available on Genweb. That is why I am a member of the list and I plan later this year or next to visit Cedartown to find out more. If you can be of help I would sincerely appreciate it. By the Way, along the line from poverty in Relay to some success in Colorado, I sired a young man who is a Firstie and will graduate and be commissioned this coming Spring from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Just another officer and gentleman with roots in Polk County. Sincerely, Larry Camp Aurora, Colorado
