    3. Although the list has had a lot of postings lately. I would like to encourage everyone to participate in "Who am I and why I joined the Polk County Mailing List?" I know some people just like to lurk, but if we're every going to make any connections or find out anything about our Polk County relatives, there needs to be some posts to the list from you guys. It would be great if everyone would send a message to the list telling just a little about their Polk County family and why they subscribed to the list. Remember to give dates or time frame when your relatives were in Polk County. And don't forget to change the subject line. Doris Robbins List Manager

    2. My ancestors in the area now called Polk County included Chivers Brooks who died there circa 1848. His wife was Susan Elliott, their children were Alexander, Robert, Chivers and an unknown daughter. They apparently migrated from Morgan County, GA to Polk County. Alexander, their eldest son, first married Louisa Pollard on 14 Jan 1849. Their children are Cinthy, Frances and John C. Louisa apparently died as Alexander and two his children were living with his mother Susan in the 1860 census. Alexander married Anzora Walthall 8 Sep 1861. Alexander enlisted in 1861 as a private in the CSA 1st Calvary in Rome, Ga and was discharged in 1865 as Captain A. R. Brooks as shown on Anzora's application for a widows pension. Together they sired six or more children The early histories of the area mention other surnames of my ancestors: Thomas William Moses Brown was a minister in a Baptist church in Haralson County before he and his family moved to Cedartown. His daughter, Fannie Brown married Alex Brooks son of Alexander Brooks mentioned above. Their children are Vivian, William, John "Bill" (formerly city manager of Cedartown and their youngest, Charles. To my knowledge, I am the only survivor of the family. Bill's widow, Antoinette Lloyd Brooks lives on Jules Peek Ave in Cedartown. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can add more information about my ancestors. Charles F. 3. Hey Doris, When did you find the time to publish the 1860 Census of Polk County? You are the busiest person I know. I am not related to Micajah Brooks, but is listed as 104 years old. My relatives don't live that long.
