1870-1930. Parents Susie Worthington of SC and William Raper of GA. Known siblings William and Mary Jane. Her brother William is thought to have resided in Cedartown at the time of her death in 1930. No records have been located regarding William to date. Sibling Mary Jane is thought to have married George Hineman, Hindman, Hindmann or a similar spelling. Malindy married William R. Rose of the Alabama Highway west of Coosa, Floyd, GA. Children were Oliver, George, John, Bertha, Hassie, William, Clayton and Lewis. He predeceased her. This family was known to be in the Rome, Floyd, GA area in 1930. Any information appreciated. Thanks, Rosebird
Inga Ward, My ggg grandmother was Susannah Ward Kinney. She was the daughter of William Ward and Lydia Chamness. She was born in what was then Rowan County, NC, in the late 1700s; but is now Davidson County, NC. She married William Kinney the second there about 1809-1812 (but "sr." on census). They migrated from Rowan County to Habersham County, GA in the 1820s. There were some other Wards who came with them. I am not sure if they were related to Susannah at this time. I suspect that they were. In 1827, several from this migration group (they did not migrate alone) won land lots in the 1827 Georgia Land Lottery. They moved to what was then Carroll County. This family stayed there until the Civil War. Again, there were Wards in this group. After the Civil War, many from this family group moved to Polk County, GA where they lived out the rest of their lives. What names of Wards are you looking for? I have a Ward database, which is small, but yours may be there. It wouldn't hurt to look. It is not too likely that they were in this area in the 1820s but rather in some other part of Georgia. This Northwestern pocket of Georgia was one of the last to be settled. The Cherokees that were removed from this area were part of the Trail of Tears of 1832. Please feel free to email me privately, if you want, and we can talk about Wards. Looking forward to talking with you. Cathy M. Casper Sanford, NC
During the period 1800-1828, Polk Co. was in Cherokee Indian Territory, after that about 1833, Paulding Co, GA was formed. Polk Co. was formed in 1853. My ancestors, Susan Brooks and her children were in this area about the same time as your Wards. Charles F. Brooks, [email protected] or [email protected]
I am searching for Ward ancestors who would have been in Polk County 1800 to 1828. A friend of my uncle's told me last night that Gene told him they came to AL from Polk Co., Ga. (Gene has passed from us). Would Polk county been part of a different county then? 1875 is where your site seems to begin. How would I find records for this area from that time span? I greatly appreciate the time you have spent reading this, and will be greatful for any information that you are willing to share with me. Highest Regards, Inga Ward
Dear Scott, I have recently learned that Springer Gibson and his wife, Dolletha Ellington, had a daughter named Frances who married William Power Wood. Both of these families were in Harris County but seemed to have ended-up in Polk County. I know some of the history of the Wood Family but very little about the Gibsons. I see alot of Gibsons mentioned in the history of Polk County and would like to find out more. William Power Wood was my great, great grandfather. Thank You, Karen Ellen Wood
Dear List Members, I've just subscribed to this list and was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm researching the family of my mother's paternal grandmother, Rebecca (Becky) NIBLET(T), who was born in 1873 in Polk County. Her father was William Niblet (1847-1888), who apparently moved his family to Tecumseh, AL, in neighboring Cherokee County, AL, in the 1870's or 1880's. William's Father was a Richard Niblet, who was born around 1805 and who appears with his wife and children on the 1850 Federal Census for Paulding County. As I mentioned, Becky's father William Niblet moved his family to Cherokee County, AL, to the town of Tecumseh, just west of the state line and the village of Etna, GA. My question: Does anyone on the list know anything about the origins of this Niblet(t) family? I can't seem to find much at all on them, not even a reference in a marriage book. I'd love to hear from anyone who knows anything about this family or knows anyone who has researched it. Many thanks! for taking the time to read this. Sincerely, --Mark in Mobile, AL
I am looking for information on this line of Campbells from Cedartown. James A. was born in SC in 1847, he died on June 5th 1917 in Cedartown. He is my G-G-Greatfather. Any help with this line forwards or back is appreciated. Charlene Campbell Torrence

Old Stewart Cemetery Cemetery walked and read on June 14, 2000 Off Runyon Loop Road just before Antioch Baptist Church on Antioch Church Road. This cemetery is old and is being taken over by kudzu. I cannot say that I was able to read each stone. There were several slate markers whose inscriptions have been obliterated. I will be in Anniston, Al around the July 4 Holiday. I understand that Anniston is only about an hour and a half from Cedartown. I would love to do some research on my ancestors who lived in Cedartown around the 1840's. Could you please tell me the best place to go where I would find the most info available. I will only have a few hours to spare. L. Dellinger Researching the Cambrons of Polk County.

Parents: William Raper of Georgia and Susie Worthington of SC. Siblings: Jane or Mary Jane married George W. Hindman and Lewis Raper living in Cedartown in 1930. Nancy Malinda Elizabeth Raper married William R. Rose. They lived in the Coosa, Georgia area when William died in 1915. She then moved to town, Rome, and died in her home in 1930. Any help appreciated, thank you, Rosebird
hi my mom was placed in Sunshine Cottage and then Harpst Home in Cedartown GA. Here are some of the places I write and visit. The Polk CO Probate Courthouse at 100 Prior St. Cedartown will let you in back to view records and then they will copy them for you for a small fee. The Cedartown Library on 245 East Ave. has a small room for genealogy and has the Cedartown Standard on Micro Flim. (think 25cents a copy). Harpst Home and the High School are NOT very helpful at alllllll. Polk Co Historical Society 205 N. College St. Cedartown GA. ; the Rome Library 205 Riverside Parkway, Rome GA. also has some Polk CO History and is only abt 20mins ride from Cedartown. Happy Hunting, Jackie
I will be passing through the Polk County area July 6. My ancestors lived in Cedartown. Where would be the best place to do some research. I only have a few hours to spare ? L. Dellinger
