    1. Re: POLK COUNTY GRANDFATHER
    2. Hi D.Scott, I have an aunt, Evelyn Irene Harris b: 1914/1915 who married a Joe L. Smith in Etowah CO. AL. they married around 1930-1940 and moved to Dallas TX. We had very little comunication with my aunt so I have very little information on them. I have been to Cedartown many times. My mother was raised in two different children's homes there. There is a small but helpful research room in the Cedartown Library. If you go to the yellow pages on line and feed in these addresses you will get a turn by turn map from your home to each of these distinations.. Here are some places with address I found very helpful: Cedartown Library, 245 East Ave. Cedartown GA. tel: 770-748-5644; Polk CO. Court House, 100 Prior STreet, Cedartown GA. ( they allow you freedom to look for records for yourself and then they charge abt $2 a copy) ; Polk Co Historical Society, 205 N. College ST. Cedartown GA.; they are just about around the corner from the Library. the first home my mother was in was on College Street.: and there is a College Street School that began before the turn of the century! there is a large cemetery just outside Cedartown, don't have the address but here is the tel. # 770-748-8320. And Rome Library GA, about 15 minutes north of Cedartown contains a lot of records for Polk CO it is the Rome/Floyd CO. Library, 205 Riverside Parkway Rome GA; (706) 236-4604; By the way the famous Harpst Children's Home in Cedartown is Haveing a re-union this July; all with any connections to the Home are welcome. 1. POLK COUNTY GRANDFATHER
    2. I would like to do some research in Polk County, GA. My maternal Grandfather Alfred Mathew Smith was born 28 July 1857 @ Cedartown, POLK CO. GA. His family was originally from Franklin, Hall, and Jackson Counties GA. He must have been born along the way in a wagon journey from there to Fayette County, AL where he married and raised a family. I have a picture of him that Id like to get scanned and maybe put on the Web Site. I do not know how long my Smiths were in Cedartown, but they are on the 1860 Federal census for Fayette County, AL Do you have any suggestions for my research? Thank You very much, Eddy A. Flick Flintstone, GA P.S. I will be in Cedartown next Thursday February 15th. I would like to have directions to the library at Cedartown.

    2. I have been searching for my g-grandparents. I just learned their names today after a 4 month wait from the Social Sec board. My g-grandfather appears to be spelled Sell Thompson and his wife is clearly Nora Belle Green. They lived in Cedartown, GA at the time of my grandaddy birth according to the ssi application. My grandaddy was Lawrence Moultrie Thompson b.July 21, 1895 in Cedartown or at least Polk Co. My grandaddy ( Lawrence M ) died in 1972 and never spoke of his parents to anyone. His mother who would be Nora Belle died when he was 2 years old. Any info at all would be appreated by me and my family. 1. Marriage of John Price and Sallie ? around 1860
    2. Mark
    3. Dear List Members, Having recently discovered that my gggrandmother Sallie Niblet had been previously married to a man named John Price (location of marriage unknown, but surely in NW GA or NE AL), who died as a CSA soldier in Knoxville, TN in 1862, I was able to locate her in the 1870 Census, Cedartown PO, listed as Sally Price, living with her daughter Mary in the household of a James Dennis. She's listed as "Domestic Servent." Two years later she married my ggrandfather Wm. Niblet in nearby Tecumseh, AL. I've been trying my best to find out what Sallie's maiden name was before she married John Price, but I can't seem to find a marriage record in any of the counties in the region. However, I don't have access to Polk marriage records in my local library. Ironically, I was just up there doing research recently, but that was before I found out about Sallie's first marriage to John Price (25th AL Infantry, CSA, formed in Calhoun Co. AL). Would anyone know if there's a marriage record for a John Price and a Sallie among the Polk Co. records? This marriage would have taken place around 1860. Oh, and while I'm at it, would anyone know who this James Dennis is? Sincerely, --Mark

On her Social Security application in l944 she was residing at 312 W. possible 1 or 2 street Tome Ga. She was employed by the Rome Hosiery Mill E. 6th Ave. Rome. I have not found a forum for this surname or any fellow researchers. If you know of any info on this line please help me. I am hoping her family might know more about the parents of her and her brother Thomas. Also is this Hosiery Mill still there? Thanks so much, Merry Ann
