Stephens stephens2247@bellsouth.net October 13, 2006, 8:26 am Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA., April 2003 Etta Womack “Granny” Harris, 92, of 1525 Davistown Rd., Taylorsville, died Sunday, March 30, 2003. She was born July 29, 1910 in Paulding County. She was also a homemaker and the oldest female member of Floyd Creek Baptist Church. In addition to working on the farm, Mrs. Harris worked in the Bartow school system as an aide and in the lunchroom. She also worked at the polling place on election days. She devoted her entire life to her family, her church, and community. She spent many hours sitting with the sick and disabled. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. “Jack” Harris; parents, Rev. John Will and Savannah Georgia Morgan Womack; four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include sons, Alton, Tommy, and Lamar Harris; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Floyd Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Fisher, Rev. Jimmy Cason and Rev. David Wilson officiating. Interment followed in the Floyd Creek church cemetery. The following grandsons served as pallbearers: Wesley, Bill, Jamie, Greg, Glenn, Eric, and Tony Harris. She was born July 14, 1983 in Floyd County and attended Piney Woods Church. Surviving are her father, Stevie Charles Harrell and mother, Barbara Ann Vines Harrell of Cedartown; brothers, Doug and Ray Hunter, Stephen and Daniel Harrell; sisters, Misty and Melissa Harrell, Mary Wood and Cindy Hunter. Eight nieces, seven nephews and a number of aunts and uncles survive also. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 29 in the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Easterwood and Rev. Gary Livingston officiating. Interment followed in the North View Cemetery. Surviving are: his mother and step-father, Annis and Ed McBurnett of Cedartown; daughter, Holly Harper of Panama City; sons, Paul Harper of Bremen, Michael Harper of Panama City; and Dusty Harper of Temple; sisters, Vickie Coggins, Dianna McBurnett, Ashley McBurnett and Heather McBurnett, all of Cedartown; brothers, Billy Harper and Keith Harper of Bremen, Charles McBurnett and Tony McBurnett, both of Cedartown and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Rev. Clarence Agan officiating. Harkins, 78, Scottsville, died Wednesday, July 23 at 9 a.m. in the Gordon Hospital. He was born in Floyd County October 12, 1924, the son of the late Denzil R. and Sally Gray Harkins. Harkins was a well-known cattle rancher and was a member of the Plainsville Independent Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in the South Pacific, where he earned the WWII Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with bronze stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Donald Eric Harkins and Carrie Gail Harkins as well as a sister, Mary R. Barnes and five brothers, Burnell, Barry, Marion and John Harkins, and D.R. Harkins, Jr. He is survived by: wife, Elaine Harkins; son, Terry Harkins, Cedartown; daughters Carole H. Bridges, Scottsville and Linda Garing, Pell City, AL; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, July 25, at the Plainsville Independent Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Stephens officiating. Burial followed at the Fain Cemetery with Juanita Grisset in charge of the music. The pallbearers were: Casey Bridges, Jason Fuller, J.C. Garland and Glenn, Sean and Johnny Harkins. He was born Jan. 16, 1935 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown. He was retired from Mead Paper Company, as an industrial engineer in Dayton, Ohio. He was the past Master of the Caledonia Lodge #121 in Cedartown. He was a past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star of Cedartown Chapter 213 and past president of the Cedartown Exchange Club. He taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Cedartown and at Farr Hills Baptist Church in Dayton. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force as Airman 1st Class from 1954-1957. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zack Allen and Alma Thomas Hardage and five siblings. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Drummond Hardage of Cedartown; sons, Robert Wesley Hardage of Cedartown, Donald E. Hardage of Dallas, and William Allen Hardage of Cobb County; daughter, Debbie Hardage Pogue of Dayton; sister, Sara Cranford of Smyrna; 11 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Lester Wholesale Grocery, serving 44 years, a former member of the Rockmart Kiwanis Club, former owner and operator of Little Bear Food Store, and a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton P. and Mary Williams Hagan. Survivors include: wife, Ruth B. Hagan; sons, Chales and Richard Hagan; daughter, Leann H. Johnson; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Cleveland and Rev. Carlton Duke officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Christopher Hagan, Ryan Matthews, Steve Tinker, Larry Davis, Bryan Roper, Joey Rogers, and Don Callihan. As General Foreman, his axel assembly lines were recognized as the most productive and efficient throughout the General Motors (GM) industry. He developed new parts and improved work procedures for which he continued to win awards. He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene “Jean” Reynolds; daughter, Barbara Ann Hackney Strohmer; his parents, Joseph and Pauline Hackney; and brother, Wink. Survivors include daughter, Vicki Rovere of Rapid City; sister, Mary Lou Davis of Cedartown; 3 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren.
