Mrs. Johnston was born May 14, 1929 in Rome, Ga., daughter of the late Henry Grady Higgins Sr. and Nettie Brewer Higgins. The earlier part of her life was spent in Rome where she married Lucius W. Johnston on October 20, 1946. For the past 36 years they resided in Doraville. She was a homemaker and member of the Chestnut Drive Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by sister, Mary Burchett and brother, Grover Higgins. Surviving are husband of 57 years, Luscius W. Johnston, Doraville; daughter, Mrs. Leslie Suzanne Castillo, Lawrenceville; sons, Luscius Mark Johnston, Cartersville, Jeffrey Reid Johnston and Kevin Todd Johnston, Stock-bridge; sister, Mrs. Mae Durden, Rome; brothers, Grady Higgins and Franklin Higgins, both of Rome; nine grandchildren. Mr. Jackson is survived by two sons, James R. She was born June 8, 1936 in Bennington, Vt. She was an active member of Bellview Baptist Church, a retired Euharlee Kindergarten teacher, and a former teacher at the Cedartown First Baptist Kindergarten. She was also president of the Women’s Auxiliary Polk County Gideon Camp. Survivors include: husband, Glenn Hightower, Cedartown; son, Lee Hightower, Cedartown; daughters, Glenda Flatley, North Dighton, Mass., and Linda Casey, Taylorsville; and sisters, Mrs. Evelyn McMillian, Cartersville, and Dorothy Mattison, Bennington, Vt. Six grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at Bellview Baptist Church, Friday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Homer Hulsey and Rev. George Bennet officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellview Cemetery. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. She was born Aug. 19, 1911 in Loughman, Florida, daughter of the late Ida Bell Garris Jowers and the late Walter Mack Jowers. She was retired from Central State Hospital where she served as a nurse for over 17 years. Following her retirement and a period of declining health she moved to Cedartown from her home in Haddock, Georgia. She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Ernest William Haskin, Sr. on Dec. 8, 1982. Survivors include a son, Ernest William “Ernie” Haskin, Jr. and his wife Evelyn Haskin of Cedartown; two daughters, Marjorie Clifford Miller of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Atha Diprima and her husband Dr. Leonard Diprima of Florence, Alabama; a sister, Ernestine Boyd of Haines City, Florida; eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Parris and Rev. Ryan Smith officiating. Funeral services and interment followed Tuesday in the Haddock Baptist Church and the Church Cemetery of Haddock, Georgia. The family requested that flowers be omitted and donations be made to the Heyman Hospice Care, P.O. Box 163, Rome, Ga. 30162-0163.
