She was the daughter of the late Logan and Lelia Jones Newman. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown, the Garden Club and the Quilting Club. She worked for Polk General Hospital in Cedartown and was in the W.A.C.S. Nursing Corps in W.W. II. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Saturday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Dean Glacken officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice at: P. O. Box 2395, Hendersonville, N.C. 28793. The Jackson Funeral Service had charge of arrangements. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel Burrell, Effie Robinson, Mattie Waldrop and Elsie Johnston. Survivors include her husband to whom she was married 66 years, James E. Kirkpatrick, Sr.; two daughters, Melba Bates of Cartersville and Debora Feldman; a son, James E. Stephens stephens2247@bellsouth.net October 17, 2006, 10:41 am Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA., November 04, 2003 William Buddy King, 81, of 148 Cason Rd., formerly of Rockmart, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2003. He was born in Augusta, Georgia and was a resident of Rockmart. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the Georgia Power Company. He was a communicant of the St. Bernadette Catholic Church of Cedartown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ann King Settle. Survivors include: niece, Mrs. Carolyn Settle Smith of Atlanta; and nephew, Michael Settle also of Atlanta. Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. in the family of Millen Cemetery located in Millen, Ga. The family has asked those wishing make a tribute in honor of Mr. King, please make donations to the American Heart Association. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Two grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Services were held Tuesday, March 30, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. Moses Wilson and Rev. Gene Beck officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Glafus Bowling, Phil Tilery, Larry Thomas, Johnny Rampley, Bill Casey and Van Holsomback. Mr. King was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Allene Cross King; sons, Barry King of Mini Hill, NC, Allen King of Macon, and Mike King of Peachtree City; sister, Ann Smith of Ft. Pierce, FL; brother, Sammy King of Cedartown; and 7 grandchildren. Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, February 25 at 4 p.m. in the Madison City Cemetery.
