Dear Greg and Cindy, There is a two volume book set of the known cemetaries in Polk County. My experience with the books has been great. The GA Room at the main Marietta Library has the set. I am sure other local libraries also have them. If you do not have access, I will be in Marietta within the next ten days or so and would be happy to do any lookups. Please let me know. I am so happy that this list is in operation. I have wanted to contact the folks with Polk Co. connections because I have so many surnames of people in Cedartown and area who are/were descendants of Henry Wood, Revoluntionary War soldier. I will throw all of these out and see if there are any cousins on the list yet. ARNALL BARBER BINFORD BOWMAN BREWSTER CHAPMAN DODDS FITE GOOD ROBERTS STEWART STUBBS VANDEVANDER WEST WOOD jkrohn
Hello cousins, I am researching MOORES< MCDOWELLS< PRIVETTS AND KINNEYS primarily in Polk County. My Granny was born there and use to tell me all kinds of stories when I was a child. She told me her entire family attended church at Antioch Baptist Church and that many of our relatives are buried there. Does anyone know if a listing of that cemetery has been done or is published somewhere? Jeremiah Marion ISBELL and Matilida WADE had 13 children, most of whom were born in Esom Hill/Cedartown, Polk County, GA. Many are buried there. Their youngest, Sampson Jeremiah ISBELL was born in Cedartown in 1871. In 1890 he married Autha Emmett PITTMAN, eldest daughter of John Eli PITTMAN and Carolyn Hazeltine HACKNEY. Autha and her mother were both (purportedly) born in Cedartown. I'm still searching for the birthplace and parents of John Eli PITTMAN. John PITTMAN served in the Confederate Army; Company D, 20th Regiment, GA Volunteers (Polk County). He was captured just before the company surrendered (at Appomatix, I believe). I would welcome any information on the ISBELL, PITTMAN, HACKNEY, WADE and related families. Also, if you have any information on the 20th Regiment, GA Volunteers - Company D in particular, I'd love to have that as well. I'm willing to share whatever information I have that you may be interested in. Lila Ashear (great granddaughter of Autha Emmett PITTMAN and Sampson Jeremiah ISBELL) [email protected]

Hi... the information on Cedartown burning came off the web... http://ngeorgia.com/county/polk.shtml Bill
Lula (or Lucinda) MIXON became pregnant out of wedlock. Her mother, Mary Elizabeth MIXON, took her daughter from their home in Alabama to Georgia (good possibility it was Polk County) to have the baby. When they returned to Alabama, the baby was passed off as being that of the grandmother and he was raised as his own mother's brother. The child was Alexander Hamilton MIXON b. March 22, 1887. Hello, would like to here from anyone researching TANNER surname in AL or GA. I have found lots of information, unfortunately most of it doesn't relate to my ancestors, as far as I can tell. Mine seem to have left very little evidence of their lives, other than their descendants. Maybe if we compare notes, we can find a connection. Thanks.
