Hello, I'm new to this list and would like any information on Dr. Zacharia Nichols and family (wife Mary Ann Thompson) daughter, Gilatha Nichols (married Moses King Holland). They were in the 1860 census for Polk Co. in Van Wert. Thank you, Vicki Salmon
Hello Polk County: Presently, members of the HENRY surname list are building a web site that contains an index of their HENRYs. When completed, it should be helpful to many HENRY family historians. I have been asked to conduct a search for links to HENRY online resources like personal web pages, and county and local genealogy association resource pages. If you have substantial HENRY information on your web page or know of HENRY information on your county or other local web site, please send the links to Judy Henry at [email protected] , so that they might be included in the new HENRY site. If you have some HENRY data that is not on a website, you may wish to subscribe to the list by sending an email to: [email protected] containing as the only text the word "subscribe" (no quotes) in the body of the message. After you get a message confirming your subscription, post your information by email to [email protected] . Thank you. I have just received the Civil War Records of Robert A. Moore of Polk County., GA. He is the brother of my great grandfather, Jackson Moore. He was born in 1840 Henry County, Georgia. This is the first proof I have had that they are from the same family who was in Henry County in 1850, John and Hannah Ewing Moore. I do not know where this family is in 1860 but he enlisted in the CSA in Statesboro. Robert tended to live close to his parents. In 1870, he is living in Polk County, next door to his parents. By then, his father is calling himself Jackson Moore just as my great grandfather was. I do not know why he changed what he was called. Robert Moore was born in Henry County, Georgia in 1840. He married Mary Amanda ? on December 11, 1866 in Bartow County, Georgia. Jackson Moore was a witness to this marriage and he attests to the marriage for proof in order for her to continue receiving his pension as his widow. He enlisted in the CSA in April 1862 at Statesboro, GA in Company O Phillips Legion. He served 3 years and was discharged April 1865 in Appomattox. VA. On April 6th, 1865, he was captured and carried to Point Lookout and kept there until June 1865. He was a farmer in poor heath at the time of his application on June 16, 1902 but had been unable to farm or do heavy labor so he "bottomed" chairs and made baskets to "make my way". He supported himself by what he could earm with the help of his wifw and his son in Alabama. (He had a son, William, in 1870. I am unaware of any other children.) Robert Moore died in Polk County on September 12, 1908. His wife, Mary Amanda Moore died on May 27, 1933 in Polk County, GA. The siblings of Robert are a little confusing but he had a sister, Sarah A. Moore who married Millard Hitchcock in Polk County and a brother, William who married Ida Wilson; a borhter Owens Moore who married Samantha Wilson; a brother John Moore who married Mattie Treadway; a brother Jackson More who married Jospehine Kinney; a sister Frances and either a brother James or a sister Jane (or both!). Any connection to any of these would be appreciated. Thanks. GROGAN I am interested in information concerning the family of Louis LayFette Grogan. He and Sarah Fincher Grogan had 12 children and are buried at Lime Branch. I have found a Louis Grogan matching the correct age as the son of Robert and Elizabeth Grogan in the 1880 Bartow County census. An Elizabeth J. Grogan is buried at Bethlehem Cemetary in Polk County. Her headstone reads 'wife of Robert Grogan' and her age matches the Bartow census. If anyone has info on Robert and Elizabeth Grogan or Louis LayFette and Sarah Grogan, please allow us to share information. Thank You Brad Jones
I am searching for info on John B. BRADFORD. I believe that he may be my great grandfather. In the 1920 Polk Co. census he was married to Rebecca and had 1 daughter, Frances, 16 years old. He died March 16, 1935 and is buried in Lime Branch Cemetery. If he is the John that I am searching for, he had a first wife name Carrie and at least two children, James Thomas and Lucy. He and Carrie separated shortly after the 1900 census was taken. No one in the family knows what happened to him after this, except for the rumor that he lived in Cedartown for a time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Karen Lynch
HACKNEY, BREWSTER, WILLIAMS, BAGWELL, PENCE, GRIFFITH, STONE, ALLEN, SMITH. Looking for information on William Elliott WILLIAMS (b. 1810 in Raleigh, NC, d. 1894 Esom Hill); he married "a BAGWELL from Temple, GA", they had a son Albert/Andrew WILLIAMS, b 1840. Albert/Andrew married Nicy PENCE b. 1840, they had a son John Elliott (Bose) WILLIAMS, b. 1868, d 1844, Esom Hill, GA. John Elliott married Fannie Ophelia HACKNEY, b. 1873, d. 1944), they had a large family, including Lillie Marteal WILLIAMS. I would like information on William Elliott WILLIAMS and the BAGWELL daughter he married. Also would like info on Nicy PENCE. J.H. GRIFFITH, probably from Cave Spring area, b. 1845, d 1918, married Elizabeth MORRIS, b. 1843 d. 1923, daughter of Homer F. MORRIS, also probably of Floyd County. They had a son, William Benjamin GRIFFITH, b. 1869, d. 1945. William married Cora Alice BREWSTER, b. 1878, d. 1918, they had a son Roy Cecil GRIFFITH, b 1898, d. 1919, who married Lillie Marteal Williams. Roy and Lillie were my grandparents. Would like more information on J.H. GRIFFITH and Elizabeth MORRIS. Cora Alice BREWSTER'S father was Richard Beverly BREWSTER, b. 1851, d 1919. His parents were Van Allen BREWSTER, b. 1817, d. 1897, and Elizabeth HUMPHREY, b. 1822, d. 1895. Richard married Nancy J. (Nannie) STONE, b. 1852, d. 1884, daughter of William Hopgood STONE, b. 1822 and Mary "Mollie" Kate GARNER, b. 1833, d. 1882. Would like more information on William Hopgood STONE. The biggest mystery of our family is, who is the father of Van Allen BREWSTER? He was illegitimate, born in Morgan County, died in Esom Hill. We believe his mother to be Rebecca ALLEN DALRYMPLE, who died in 1874. His father was a BREWSTER, presumably from the family of John BREWSTER and Elizabeth SHERIFF who moved their large family from MD/VA to Mechlenberg, SC about 1763, later moved to present Anderson Co., SC. Some of his sons moved to Morgan County Georgia around 1806 and we are fairly certain one of these offspring is the father of Van Allen. We suspect it was Sheriff BREWSTER JR., grandson of John BREWSTER and Elizabeth SHERIFF, for numerous reasons, but have no proof. Any old family records out there? I have excellent information on desc. of above, will gladly share and would appreciate any information about specified names. Thanks! Also looking for John Richard SMITH, SR., who was born in Cherokee County, married Katie PERRY, from Floyd County, and had a barber shop in Cedartown until his death in about 1953. Any information on his or Katie's parentage would be appreciated. They were my grandparents. Kitty Johnson Coldwell-Banker/Miller's Real Estate 1-800-616-3355 541-563-2349
