Scott, This is for Anne Hampton. Anne, believe you were responding to my post of a couple of months ago. Appreciate your willingness to check out Sanders Cemetery and Jackson Chapel Cemetery. I believe I have all the data I need from the tombstones of those from my family who are buried in these locations. I am asking interested parties to join the USGenWeb Special "Tombstone" Project and record their cemetery data permanently. If I had a couple of days at Sanders I would do it. Jackson's Chapel would take about the same amount of time. If someone would record all the tombstone inscriptions and submit them to USGenWeb (check www.usgenweb.org/ for details), many of us could get important birth/death info from the web. I have already recorded most of the data for my immediate family on past visits to the cemeteries, but as I delve deeper into the families of my ancestors I discover that other, previously unknown folks, are buried at the same cemeteries. Just a plea for those who have the time to help all the rest of us out. Anne, Thanks for the offer. Looking for any Riddlespurgers. Marie
Anne, I need the names of any DEMPSEY buried in or near the Cedartown area. My great grandfather was William Jackson DEMPSEY lived in this area prior to coming to AL. His family will probably be buried in the area. I am still searching for the names of his parents and siblings. I think his father may be "James Dempsey". Any information on him will be appreciated. Jo (Dempsey) Suddith
Hello! RE: YOUR MESSAGE on Date: Fri, 19 Feb 1999 20:14:54 -0700 I recently drove up from Atlanta to Cedartown to look for Hamptons, Howells, Peeks, and Burtons and anyone else I could think of. Took me a while to find the cemeteries, but I did. I will go back weekend after next to photograph sites. Many, many names in Sanders Cemetery. I did write down many last names for Sanders, but didn't make it a project. When I looked through Jackson Chapel, beautiful rural setting, I was just looking for my family, but I have some notes. Fire away! Who are you looking for? I'll be glad to share what I have and describe the cemeteries for you. Very old. Anne Hampton

Need someone to help me locate my grandparents in Polk County, GA. I just received a death certificate for my grandfather, George Franklin Jones, and it lists his parents as ROBERT JONES & KATTIE JAMES. I have located 3 death dates that I need confirmation on but live out of state. Found was Katie Jones, Polk Co. GA, died April 15, 1927, Certificate # 9277-1; Robert Jones, Polk Co. GA, died March 26, 1931 Certificate # 10255; Robert L. Jones, Polk Co. GA, died February 3, 1932, Certificate # 6829. I need badly for someone to see if they can find an obit for me and to determine if these are the Robert & Kattie Jones that I am searching for. I want to send off for their death certificates but want to be certain before I do. Robert L. Jones may be one of their children but the only ONE that I know for certain is my grandfather, George Franklin Jones who married Sarah Ann Garner who was in that area with their children at the time, I think. They later moved to Franklin County, AL but hopefully they were still there and will be mentioned in the obit for Katie & Robert. I will be very grateful to anyone who can look this up for me. I am badly in need of someone who lives in the Polk County, GA area to help me confirm some data just received. This past Friday I received the death certificate for my grandfather, George Franklin Jones, and it listed his parents as ROBERT JONES & KATTIE JAMES. The Georgia Death Index shows a KATIE JONES, Polk County, GA , died April 15, 1927, Certificate # 9277-1. Also found was a ROBERT JONES, Polk County, GA, died March 26, 1931, Certificate # 10255. Another ROBERT L. JONES was found, Polk County, GA, died February 3, 1932, Certificate # 6829. I would like very much to have my greatgrandparents death certificates but am not certain these are the right ones. Is there some way to check the information in order to confirm that they are my greatgrandparents? I just learned their names when I received the death certificate for my grandfather and have no other information about them and I only know of the one child, my grandfather, for sure. My grandparents were living in Polk County, GA at the time and I do have a 1910 census for their household showing the following: George F. Jones, age 33, born GA, parents born VA Sallie A. Jones, age 28, born MS, parents born GA William O. Jones, age 7, born LA Henry G.(or Y.) Jones, age 5, born LA Nettie F. Jones, age 3, born LA Mary Jones, age 1, born GA My grandfather was born 1876 and would not show up in a census for Robert & Kattie Jones until 1880 but the 1890 census is what I really need and that one of course is not available. By 1900, my grandparents had their own household since the 1910 census shows that they had been married for 11 years. The Robert L. Jones may have been a sibling to my grandfather. I would really appreciate it if someone has a way of checking the data to see if the above death dates and certificate # would indicate that these are indeed my greatgrandparents so that I can send off for their death certificates. Best regards, Jane Ashley Benson
Can anyone on the list tell me how or where to find records of a birth and death in Rockmart, Polk County, GA in 1905? Which one of the local funeral homes would likely have records back that far? Do the county birth and death records go back to 1905? Jo Teague

Silas TANNER married Sarah Adalene JOHNSON, Book A, page 163 Polk Co., GA 7/5/1860. The date would have been appropriate for the parents of my gr grandfather, variously listed as John Thomas TANNER or John Robert TANNER. Sarah A TANNER has turned up on the 1880 Cherokee Co, AL census with 6 children. I believe these are the same women. If anyone has information on this couple or either one of them, please let me know.
