Ooops...Elias was born 1824 in Gwinnett Co, Ga not Paulding. He is listed in the 1850 Paulding census. He claimed to be the son of James Camp (questionable). Sorry, Thanks, Larry
I recently replied to an inquiry with this information about the descendancy of the Rev. Elias A. Camp b 1824 Paulding Co. Ga. I have most of the children listed and their descendants but need to know more about Elias's siblings and parents. If you can help let me know. > If you look at the 1850 Census you see Elias Camp and Sally (Sarah) with a one year old child Columbus M. Camp that is my line....Richard was the next born and by age subtraction from the 1970 Cenus Richard has to have been born in 1856 Jane in 1863 and Elias jr in 1865. > > The 1880 census shows Jane at age 16 confirming the Birth Date and Richard at age 14 also confirming and Elias Jr at age 15. > > In the 1870 census we find CM at age twenty married to Elizabeth with three children. > that matches the birth in 1849 as well. > > Elias is said to have had seven children. > > I can account for > > Columbus M 1849 > > Richard 1856 > > Jane 1863 > > and Elias Jr 1865 Thanks for any thing you can share with me. On the USGS Mapping Database I ran across a populated place(historical) in Polk Co "WINKLES". It appears to have been located at what is now the point where the RR crosses US 27 just north of the Haralson County line. Does anyone have any idea about this location. My paternal ancestors Winkles lived and died in that general area. Thanks, Don Barber
Knowing that my family lived in what is now the Antioch community during a period that showed them as being in "Yellow Stone" has always meant to me that Antioch is, indeed, the present location of what was once Yellow Stone. The E. D. Hightower, postmaster of Yellow Stone, 1850-52, was my direct ancestor; some of my family still live on the land he owned. My Carter ancestors also lived in Yellow Stone, according to that census; I know that they lived "just up the road" from the Hightowers. According to an article published in the Cedartown paper in the early 1900's, Yellow Stone had become "Shades"....the article was about a party at the Hightower home in Shades. I don't know at what point it was renamed Antioch; but that's a quick "history" of the community name, which is located between Rockmart and Cedartown in Polk County. Alice Carter Sheppard

Alton, According to the New and Complete Gazetteer of the U.S. (1854), p.1321, YELLOWSTONE, was a post-office in Paulding County, Georgia. In the 1860 U. S. Census my great-great-grandfather was enumerated as residing in the 1074th Militia District GM of the Yellowstone District of Polk Co., GA. I have a listing somewhere stating when the Yellowstone Post Office was activated and deactivated; however, I'm unable to lay my hands upon it at the moment. I recently found this site about Polk County and the Civil War. It is a really good site. I tried to email the site owner but my mail was returned. I was hoping he would be interested in a link to the Polk County GenWeb Site. For all on the list, here is the URL. I had two ancestors in different companies of Phillips Legion. Thought some of you might find some information. If anyone gets through to the site owner, please let the rest of us know what addy you used! http://www.angelfire.com/ga/firstgacav/PhillipsLegion.html Have fun! All Subscriber, When accessing the Obits at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gapolk USGenWeb Polk County Web site and you may not get the complete listing, try reloading the obit page. I do not know why the larger web pages are not getting loaded the first time. Sometimes it takes several reloads to get web page to load completely. There must be a problem at Rootsweb. Wendell Stephen handles the Obits for the Polk County Web Page. He may have a copy of your obits. He has done a GREAT job with the Polk obits. He has sent me a few obits that I have not added to the page yet, but they are at home and I am replying from work. D.
