The Museum also has for purchase 'The History of Lamar County 1825 - 1932' at a cost of $25 (plus shipping and handling). No matter what facet of life or time you are looking at, there is something for everyone. If you are a genealogist with roots in the Lamar County area, you have hit the Mother Lode! Some of the valuable collections and resources on location are abstracts of census records, original newspapers, obituaries, and probate records for the Lamar, Monroe and Pike County areas. The Museum also has many personal histories, photos, and just odds and ends that will get your genealogical blood racing! Director Shanna English is more than happy to assist people with general look-ups via email or snail mail; all she asks in return is a donation to the Old Jail Museum and Archives.
