    1. [GAPIKE] GA Archives threatened with closure
    2. Elaine Nell
    3. HB 78 contains cuts to the Georgia State Archives's budget that will likely result in its having to close its doors to the public! The bill has already passed the state House of Representatives and is currently in the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee. The GA Archives is already only open 3 days a week due to previous budget cuts. Please contact your state senator IMMEDIATELY (preferably by phone or snail mail, as emails tend not to have as much impact, but are of course better than nothing!) to ask him/her to please spare the Archives by restoring at least $300,000 to the Archives budget for 2011-2012. Please Friends of Georgia Archives & History website for more information. http://www.fogah.org/ Even if you are not a Georgia resident, please let your voice be heard, especially if you use the Georgia Archives or hire someone to research there for you. Some additional state senators who are on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that it would be helpful to contact include: Senator Judson Hill (R), Dist. 33 (Cobb Co.). He chairs the Senate Sub-Committee for the Office of Secretary of State.
