Since someone else wrote me about this question of the Search Engine....let me try to explain more. Barbara and I work closely together on Pike county. She is the County Coordinator for this page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gapike/index.htm I've quoted here, the description from the usgenweb.com page....so you can understand the differences between Barbara's page and the Archvies page which I take care of. State Pages for the Project The Project's State Pages Here you will find links to the Project's individual State pages. The State sites are the jumping off points to get started on your research. At the State Site, you will find links to each County within that state, where you will find a wealth of county related information. On the County Sites, you can post queries to help you over that "brick wall". ***Why don't the State Pages have a central Search Engine**** Barbara's page is located on the Rootsweb server, but many County Coordinators choose to locate their pages on other servers. Therefore, it would be impossible for Rootsweb to have a Search Engine that would cover all these pages. The Pike County Archive page http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/pike.htm like ALL archive pages are on the Rootsweb Server. The USGenWeb Project Archives The USGenWeb Digital Library (Archives) offers actual transcriptions of public domain records. You will find copies of census records, marriage bonds, wills, and other public documents. Go directly to the National Archives Search Engine or to the State Archives Search Engine. I've just posted the Jacob Cole will on the Archives page....so it should appear in the Search Engine within 24 hours. I believe every night they do the "spidering". The key is to get your material posted as many places as possible, as you never know where a person will come upon it!! Virginia Crilley
