    1. [GAPIKE] J. A. McCulloch Diary 1895-1900
    2. A few years ago we purchased a paperback book edited by Mary Coleman. She had found the original copy of J. A. McCulloch's diary in an antique store in Chiefland, FL. She was so intrigued by the diary, she decided to have it published. The book is made up of dated journal entries. The main character's are J.A. McCulloch, who is a farmer and a peddler living in Pike Co.; his wife, Ellen Shockley; and other members of the Shockley family. But, he also writes of many of his neighbors in the community and his customers that he delivers to. The book gives an interesting insight on life in McColloch's family and the community. The book doesn't have an index, but a few of the surnames that are mentioned are: Bankston, Bolton, Brown, Carden, Colwell, Crane, Jones, Kendrick, Lyles, Lynch, Patterson, Perkins, Smith, Woodworth, Wilkerson. There are others, but these seem to be mentioned most. The name of the book is "Better to Dwell - A Georgia Peddler's Diary 1895-1900". We ordered it from the editor, Mary Coleman. At the time we ordered, her address was P.O. Box 471, Bonifay, FL 32425. I am not sure if that is still correct.
