Edward Turner and his wife Mary Methvin Turner had 6 sons and likely a couple of daughters, one of whom likely married and lived in Henry Co. Ga at some point. Members of this Turner family still live in Pike Co. GA and a part of his story can be found in the Pike Co. History Book. Edward Turner was born in 1778 in SC and was in Hancock Co. GA with his father James Turner, Sr.b c 1735 "from" VA by 1781. He was likely James' youngest child. He had at least two older sisters and likely three older brothers. Edward married Mary Methvin a Scottish girl from MD before 1800 and began a trek through GA which lasted his whole life. GA 1803 son Elisha Turner born. He later married Lucinda Wesley in Newton Co. GA 1804 on Tax Digest in Strother's Militia District, Hancock Co. GA 1805 on Tax Digest in Martin' s Militia District Clarke Co. GA 1806 son Absalom Turner born. He later married Mary Glass in Meriwether Co. GA 1807 Wright's Militia Dist. Jackson Co. GA won Lot 62 Dist 20 Wilkinson Co. GA 1808 son Shadrack Turner born. He later married (1)Elizabeth Brantley &(2) Sarah Snellgrove 1810 age 32 on Tax Digest in Winter's Militia Dist. Jackson Co. GA 1811 age 33 on list of tax defaulters in Capt. Rbt. Montgomery's Dist, Jackson Co. GA (src. GA Express, Vol. IV, No. 182, Friday, Jan. 17, 1812) Gwinnett Co. Ga was created in 1818 partially from land taken from Jackson Co. GA (Note- This does not indicate that he failed to pay taxes but rather to make a return (or listing) of his property. This could have been due to a variety if things such as removal from the county or neglect. Most of those listed had moved from the county.) 1820 age 42 Gwinnett Co.
