My ALLEN ancestors are Drewry (died 1828 in Pike County), Abraham Stokes (died 1893 in Pike County) and Sarah Frances Allen. Sarah Frances Allen married John Ray Sanders in 1855. John Ray Sanders' parents died in neighboring Alabama when he was a small child and was he was raised by Leonard Worthy in Pike County. John Ray Sanders served in the 44th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War. After the war John Ray and Sarah Sanders moved to Arkansas. Would like to correspond with others researching these families. Jim, I am connected to Drewery Allen. Josiah Allen, who married Elizabeth Browning, was my fourth great grandfather. Their daughter, Mary Ann, married Wyatt Hester. Their daughter, Mary Ann, married David Green Heflin, Their daughter, Amanda Elizabeth, married Charles Alexander Gordon. Their son, John Morgan Gordon, married Josie Kate Weeks. Their daughter, Margaret Ruth, married Milton Adair McCleskey. I am their daughter. I am one of several Heflin researchers who haven't been working on our Allen very long. One of our members returned, recently, from Pike Co. where he got copies of some deeds and wills. The Pike Co. names that I am researching are Allen, Browning, Heflin, Hester, Bevil, Ellis, and Boman.
