My Harris family begins with brothers Leonard, James, Boling and Marion Harris. Leonard received one of the first land draws for Pike County. It appears that before coming to Pike, the family was located in Wilkes County and came to GA from VA. We do not have the names of their parents at this time. Leonard married Anna Baughan, James married Sarah Hudgins and Boling married Mary Ann (Miriam) Kent. We have no record at this time of who Marion married. Leonard is buried at Old Hebron Cemetery (he donated the land for the church and cemetery), Boling and most of his family are buried on their family land. We still do not know where James and Marion are buried. My line is through James, so I am particularly interested in finding someone with links to him, but certainly would like to compare notes with any other Harris researchers. He is first recorded in land records in the 1830's and is listed in the 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 census. He died in the early 1870's. James' son Ruben married Frances Manly in 1846. They had one son, John Wesley Harris and he is my g-grandfather. After the Civil War, John Wesley moved to Texas as many did. Ruben apparently died either before or soon after his birth. I have found land records for the Manly family dating back to the 1830's as well, but have been unable to sort them all out. Frances' mother was named Mary and she had brothers by the name of David, John, and Daniel Manly. Thanks for any help anyone might be able to give. Nancy Harris Wilkerson
