Does anyone know anything more about this Scott Neal? I'm trying to track down the parents of my great grandfather James Neal (1825) who was listed in the 1880 census as a Mulatto. I have some info on Scott Neal from a Pike Co. History book that I found in the Pike Co. Libray some years back. It reads in part: "In 1868 David Riley deeded 180 acres to three freed slaves, Charles Castlin, Nathaniel "Ned" Kendrick, and Scott Neal (James Neal's acknowledged son)." I do know that in the 1870 census, my greatgrandfather James Neal, was shown living a few doors down from the white James Neal, age 86, who lived next door to two other black families of Neals. I always figured that all of these black neals were once owned by James Neal. Now I know that Scott Neal was freed but I don't know the year. Any Help would be appreciated.
