The Pike County Journal. Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, Feb. 21, 1896 A special session of the court of ordinary was held last Monday by Judge Blasingame to hear the case of James G. Holmes application for guardianship of the person and property of Louise Holmes. Louise is a pretty little girl about three years old. Her aunt, Miss Eliza Beckham, asks that the guardianship be vested in her. She was represented by Col. S.N. Woodward, while Mr. Holmes was represented by Col. Joseph J. Rogers. The ordinary decided that the property, amounting to three or four thousand dollars, should be turned over to Holmes and that the person of the child be given to Miss Beckham. The judgment was rendered accordingly. (Transcribed 11/17/02 Lynn Cunningham)
Lynn - What was the relationship, if any, between James G Holmes and Louise? Was Eliza Beckham the sister of Louise's mother? How does Eliza tie in to the Beckhams we've been talking about? Who were Louise's parents? Seems like an unfair split to me. Eliza was fit to take care of Louise but not her money. Wonder how they expected Eliza to meet Louise's expenses? Perhaps the money was all Mr. Holmes was interested in??? Lisa ----- Original Message ----- From: Lynn B.
