    3. Dear All Pike County List Members, You can't guess how jealous reading this message makes me!! If only I could hop on a plane and be over there for this I'd do it in a second! This sounds like such great fun, and I applaud your Historical Society for putting on an interesting, fun filled, "non-stuffy" event! So often we hear of talks, speeches, workshops, all of which have their place, but this sounds like a great ole good time. I'm descended from two long time Pike county families, the Allens, which include Drury, "Major Bob", and his daughter Mary Ann Allen, born 1824. She was the wife of William Riley Jones, born 1 JAN 1807, both buried at Friendship Baptist Cemetery near Zebulon. Their son, Josiah Allen Jones, born 14 FEB 1856, was my grandfather. He came with some of his brothers and Allen relatives to north LA about 1870, his parents having both died. Some of these men settled in Jackson parish, while others later moved on to TX. About 100 years later, I made the move to TX, Dallas exactly, which is my home now. I had the pleasure of a brief visit in Pike and Lamar counties many years ago and was assisted by so many kind strangers in my search for my great grandparents' graves. Believe it or not, we found them in one day, which says something exceptional for your citizens!! I hope to return some day as I don't believe like I'd "be a stranger" there!
