    1. [GAPIKE] New Message Boards Administrator
    2. Barbara Smallwood Stock
    3. Kim Gordon is now administrator of the message boards for both of my counties - Pike and Harris Counties. It has come to my attention, judging from several emails I have received, that some of you are confused about the differences between the GAGenWeb county pages, the message boards for the counties, and the Archives for the counties. So I thought I would send an email to the list to attempt to clarify things. First, I am still the coordinator of both the Harris County and the Pike County GAGenWeb pages. I am also still the mailing list moms for both counties. The RootsWeb Message Boards are a separate entity from the GAGenWeb county sites but are available to the GAGenWeb county coordinators as a automatic system for queries and for record submission. I did opt for both my counties to use the RootsWeb Message Boards and have links on the pages for access to these Message Boards. Some county coordinators also coordinate the message boards but I did not have enough free time to take this on. I was very happy to hear that Kim Gordon (kimeye1@hotmail.com) has agreed to take on these boards. They have been largely unattended for the past year or so. There is a Links & Announcements link on the message board pages, and it is hoped that you will make use of this link and make Kim aware of additional links that should be added. In addition to queries, the Message Boards also are available for records donations. If you select a record type at VIEW MESSAGE TYPE, you can pull up a list of donations for a specific record type, like wills, deeds, etc. Also, when you donate a record to these boards, be sure to select a records type so that it will be indexed on the right list. Records can also be donated to the county pages or to the Archives. I know this is confusing, since there are 3 places you can put your records. You may even want to place them in all 3 places for extra exposure. If I am aware that a record has already been donated to the Archives, I often simply place a link to the record on my various records index pages instead of physically placing the record on the county pages. It's still available but takes up less space that way and is easier for me. But the main point here is that we want your records. It doesn't matter where you donate them - just donate them to at least one of the 3 places. I periodically check the archives to see if I need to add any new links on my records indexes so that you can also access the archives records directly from the county pages. Please welcome Kim Gordon aboard as Message Boards Administrator. Having an involved administrator in this capacity will be an asset to the GAGenWeb county pages. BTW, if anyone would like to take over as mailing list administrator for both or either of the Pike County and Harris County mailing lists, please let me know. I think my time and efforts would be better spent on the county pages and could do a better job on those pages if I was not spread out as thin as I now am. The GAGenWeb county pages, the county Archives pages and the Message Boards are all places you can make use of to search for your ancestors and to make records donations. Virginia Crilley of the GAGenWeb Archives, Kim Gordon of the Message Boards and myself with the Pike and Harris County GAGenWeb county pages are all working to make these records available to researchers.
