Barbara Smallwood Stock -----Original Message----- From: Les Buckalew (by way of Jan Davenport <jan.davenport@worldnet.att.net>) [mailto:buckles@mindspring.com] Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2001 9:08 AM To: GEORGIA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [GEORGIA] KINGS, South Carolina to Henry Co., GA Part 1 Searching for ancestors and/or descendants of Hiram (born abt 1789 in SC) and/or Joseph (born abt 1801 in SC) KING. Hiram's daughter, Mary Caroline, was my great-grandmother. Les Buckalew First Generation 1. KING, 18141, M. Children: 2 i. Hiram, 18125, M (~1789-) 3 ii. Joseph, 18142, M (~1801-) Second Generation 2. Hiram KING, 18125, M. Hiram was born in SC abt 1789. 1833, Jan 21, Henry Co., GA Deed Book F, p. 452: Troup Co., L. G. Stanton of said county sold to Hiram King of Henry Co. on Jan. 21, 1833 for the sum of $150, the south half of Lot #168 in Dist. 2, 101 1/4 acres. Wit: Jordan Richardson and A.M. Harrist, J.P. Recorded Jan 13, 1834. 1833, Jan 28, Henry Co., GA Deed Book F, p. 453: Henry Co., Hiram King sold to John Anderson both of said county on Jan. 28, 1833 for the sum of $150, the south half of Lot #168 in Dist. 2, 101 1/4 acres. Wit: Jeremiah Thomason, Parks W. Smith J.P. Record3ed January 14, 1834. 1830 Henry Co. census, p. 222: Male under 5 (1), Male 5-10 (1), Male 30-40 (1), Female under 5 (1), Female 20-30 (1). 1840 Henry Co. census, p. 328, 489th District: Male under 5 (1), Male 5-10 (2), Male 15-20 (1), Male 40-50 (1), Female under 5 (1), Female 10-15 (1), Female 30-40 (1). 1850 Henry Co., GA census. Note: In 1850 Henry Co., GA census, Hiram, John W., and Joseph King familes and that of John Wade are on p. 193, 42nd District, dwellings and families ## 81, 82, 84 and 85, indicating to me close blood relationships of these persons. Also, in same census, p. 196, same district above, is Sol (Solomon ?) King (no age or birthplace) in home of Arch (Archibald ?) Brown, Dwelling/Family 119, 28 SC, along with J. B. Bowden, 15 GA). I'm conjecturing that this Sol is the Solomon King that appears in the 1860 Henry Co., GA census with a wife and five children, and that he is an elder son of Hiram and Sarah. Neither do I know the relationship of John W. King to Hiram but do believe he is a close relative, maybe Hirams nephew. 1850 Henry Co., GA census, Dwelling/Family 81: King, John W., 25, SC. A.A. (female) 25. N.E. (female) 2. T.B. (male) 1. 1860 Henry Co., GA census: With wife, Sarah, and four children: Nathaniel, Elijah M., James, and Mary (Mary Caroline, Im assuming). 1870 Henry Co., GA census: With wife, Sally (a nickname, Im sure, for Sarah), and Rachael Wade, 83, SC. I feel sure that Rachael Wade was Hirams mother-in-law. Also, in this 1870 census, it appears that the Hiram and Joseph King families are living adjacent to each other, further supporting the conjecture that they were brothers or cousins. Hiram married Sarah WADE (Maybe "Wade" ?), 18126, F, daughter of (conjecture) John WADE, 18139, M (abt 1785-) & Rachael, 18140, F (abt 1788-). Sarah was born in SC abt 1809. Sarah died on 23 Mar 1894; she was 85. Nickname: Sally. They had the following children: 4 i. Solomon, 18150, M (1828-1897) 5 ii. Louisiana, 18133, F iii. F.(Frank ?) M., 18127, M. F.(Frank ?) M. was born abt 1832. iv. J.(I ?) C., 18128, M. J.(I ?) C. was born abt 1834. 6 v. Mary Caroline, 72, F (~1836->1889) vi. W.B., 18129, M. W.B. was born abt 1839. vii. Nathaniel, 18130, M. Nathaniel was born in GA abt 1842. viii. Elijah M., 18131, M. Elijah M. was born in GA abt 1844. ix. N.M., 18132, F. N.M. was born abt 1849. x. James, 18135, M. James was born in GA abt 1851. 3. Joseph KING, 18142, M. Joseph was born in SC abt 1801. Conjecture: That Joseph is Hirams brother 1830 Henry Co. census, p. 243: Male under 5 (1), Male 20-30 (1), Female under 5 (1), Female 15-20 (1), Female 20-30 (1). 1840 Henry Co. census, p. 328, 489th District: Male under 5 (1), Male 10-15 (1), Male 30-40 (1), Female under 5 (1), Female 5-10 (2), Female 20-30 (1). 1850 Henry Co. census, Dwelling 82/Family 82. Note: In 1850 Henry Co., GA census, Hiram, John W., and Joseph King families and that of John Wade are on p. 1860 Henry Co., GA census. Rhoda Cleveland, 89, b. abt 1771 in VA, also in home. Josephs mother-in-law? 1870 Henry Co., GA census. In this 1870 census, it appears that the Hiram and Joseph King families are living adjacent to each other, further supporting the conjecture that they were brothers or cousins. Joseph married Martha CLEVELAND, 18143, F. Martha was born in SC abt 1819. They had the following children: i. Elizabeth P., 18144, F. Elizabeth P. was born in SC abt 1832. ii. Martha, 18146, F.
