    3. Becky, Have you looked for a message board devoted to the surname Carden on either Rootsweb or GenForum? Many of the surname boards also have mailing lists, and I've found some people searching for the same families as mine in this way. Have you posted to GenForum boards? GenCircles has info on lots of different families too, and I've searched for lost ancestors there. Do you have a list of his siblings? If so, try looking for one of them that lived longer, left more records. There is a Civil War board for AL, and that could possibly bring some answers. Several of the various well known Civil War units have their own web sites, and maybe a cousin or brother was also in Hillard's Legion. Do you have the regiment and company he was in? Do you have a pension request form for his wife? If she filed one, they contain a wealth of info, though his parents names are not likely. It should tell you where he was born though, so you could search for census reports just about that time in that county looking for candidates for his folks. Just some ideas of things I have tried that have worked at times for me! Good Luck!
