Pike County, Journal Zebulon, GA., Tuesday, November 12, 1889 The Poor Farm Let Last Tuesday the county commissioners let the poor farm to Mr. J.T. Ballard for 1890. Mr. Ballard is a very successful farmer and promises to put the farm on a paying basis. The terms of the contract are as follows: Ballard is to pay $220.00 as rent for the farm; he is to cultivate 10 acres of the land for the exclusive benefit of the paupers; gives a $500 bond for the faithful performance of duty, etc., and is to receive $15 per month for service as superintendent of paupers.
