The Pike County Journal Zebulon, Pike Co., Ga., Friday, June 15, 1894 The oldest man and one of the best in Pike county is dead. Uncle John Leak after a lifetime of more than 102 years has crossed the dark river and entered upon his reward.. He died last Friday the 8th inst. of dysentery and was buried in the Jordans Store community on the day following. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. W.A. Brooks of Fayetteville. Mr. Leak had a great many warm friends and was to the last a most companionable gentleman. He was a member of the Baptist church. Fourteen years ago, Uncle John Leak was thought to have been at deaths door. He sent to Zebulon and bought a burial suit. It was sold to him by Dr. C.F. Redding, and while not needed at the time, it performed the service for which it was purchased fourteen years later. (Transcribed 10/31/02 Lynn Cunningham)
