    1. [GAPIKE] Green FAmily in Pike County
    2. Phoenix
    3. Hello! I'm seeking information on the family of my husband's Ggrandmother, Millie Malinda (Lindy) Green. She was born 29 Oct 1872 in Bienville Parish, LA and died 31 Dec 1954 in Bienville Parish. She and her husband, Ennis Napoleon Franklin, are buried at Providence Cemetery, Ringgold, Bienville Parish, LA. They had 13 children. Recently received some information from a cousin and I'm not certain how much of this is accurate, but here goes: Millie's parents were William Dearman Green (b 1840 Pike Co, GA d 1875 Bienville Parish, LA) and Sarah Ann Millie Sledge. William was the son of Daniel Jackson Green (b 7 Aug 1813 Pike Co, GA d 16 Nov 1907 Bienville Parish, LA) and Malinda King (b 25 Dec 1817 d 7 Aug 1906 Bienville Parish, LA). Daniel was the son of Burwell Green, Jr. (b 1790 Caswell Co, NC d 1871-72 Pike Co, GA) Burwell Green, Sr. was b abt 1750 Culpeper Co, VA and d Pike Co, GA aft 1830. Any and all information is much appreciated. Lisa Franklin New Llano, LA

    1. [GAPIKE] Unknown Carrekers
    2. James Majors
    3. I visited my parents' grves this wekend in Est View Cemetery in Zebulon and while there walked around most of the cemetery. My mother was Ruby Carreker Majors, wife of T.A.Jack Majors, Jr. and dau. of Edward Jackson and Maude Carreker of Concord and the granddaughter of William Alexander and Laura T. Wright Carreker of Merriwether Co., GA. I know there were a couple of distant cousins in Pike County before the Civil War, but they spelled the name Carriker. These families moved on to AL shortly after the war. I found a number of markers contaiing the name of Carreker, most born in the late 1800s, and wonder if any of you might have more information on these individuals in your files. First, I found the grave of Mary Loisa Baker Carreker, dau of Col. John H. & Louesa A. Baker, and wife of Jacob P. Carreker. She b. 8/8/1857, died 10/1/1887. There is an Ouida Carreker Mullins, b 10/2/1882, d 6/9/1927 buried beside her husband Spencer Brady Mullins. There is a Lena Carreker Reeves buried beside her husband W. J. Reeves. She b 6/26/183, d 10/27/1908. George McDowell Carreker, b 12/29/1859, died 3/5/1931 is buried beside his wife Sarah Scoggin Carreker, b 12/27/1859, d 5/19/1931. Also in the same family plot is a Lemma Connell Carreker, b 8/10/1895, d 7/21/1960. Finally, there is an Emma Roe Carreker Mathews, b 11/23/1880, d 4/14/1962, buried beside her husband John Marion Mathews, b 9/25/1880, died 1/1/1942. James Majors

According to Stokeley Summerfield Buckalew, his mother, Caroline King, had eight brothers, all of whom were in the Civil War. Only one, Frank King, returned after the war. Carolyn King had one sister that is known, Lousanna King (or Lou Ann). Married Bob Dorton (or Dorten). Carolyn King was Milton M. Buckalew's third wife. See notes re/ Milton M. Buckalew for the names of first two wives. Alternate spelling: BuckElew. Milton's son, Stokeley, told Lester Trammell Buckalew in Nov 1962 that his father, Milton, who died when Stokeley was 8 years old, arrived at the U.S. shore aboard an Irish ship. Left (jumped?) the ship in Savannah harbor at age of sixteen years. Approximate year of arrival: 1834. Lester Trammell Buckalew attempted in vain to confirm this with Irish Geneological Society, Dublin, Ireland. No Buckalew on any ship manifest in that period. Milton could have been unmanifested cabin boy or stowaway. Because of Stokeley's youthfulness (8 years) when Milton died, had no other memory of anything Milton may have told him about family origins. Unsure of order of children's births. Betty (Brown) Johnson, geneologist and first cousin to Lester Trammell Buckalew, found in her four books on Early Marriages of Georgia the marriage of Milton M. 2. Hello -- I just checked the survey of the Cranford Cemetery in the Coweta Co GA Cemetery book. The Cranford Cemetery does not have any Scoggins buried there. I also looked in the index for Scoggin/Scroggin variations, but did not find Laban Beckham Scoggins listed. My money says that Stephanie Bradley will find it for you through one of her contacts. She's wonderful! We are very lucky to have a "local" so interested in getting Pike County's history and records out to the rest of us! Good luck! Valerie (Johnson) Freeman

    3. We do not have the marriage records indexed by groom on the site [nor do I think they exist elsewhere online]. But you can locate grooms by opening each Brides page and doing a word search for the surname. I am currently evaluating the onsite search machine to see if it needs to be improved. That might be another way to locate a groom. If I need to make a change in search machines, I will do so. 3. Hi Brad, thank you for checking this out for me. I did locate a Cranford Cemetery in Coweta County. It appears to be close to a historical church in Madras, Coweta County, according to GNIS listings. Cranford Cemetery: Georgia County: Coweta Map: Madras Latitude: 332811N Longitude: 0843956W Lees Chapel (historical) Feature Type: church State: Georgia County: Coweta Map: Madras Latitude: 332826N Longitude: 0843849W Don't know historical significance of the church, I just located this information. Thanks again, Linda Patrick ----- Original Message ----- From: <SBrad1249@aol.com> To: <GAPIKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2001 11:51 AM Subject: [GAPIKE] No Cranford > I went to the library today to see if I could find a Cranford Cemetery. 2. I went to the library today to see if I could find a Cranford Cemetery. No one knows where it might be. I have even asked some longtime residents of Molena and they are unaware of anything even close to that name. I got a DOT map marking all the cemeteries in Pike County and as I have time I'll try to look at some of these family cemeteries around town to see if I can spot your guy. Also I will ask our local War Between the States expert. He has been responsible for getting a lot of the stones put on the graves on our Confederate veterans--so he might know. It will be awhile before I can catch up with him though==so just bear with me. Steph
