On the County Sites, you can post queries to help you over that "brick wall". ***Why don't the State Pages have a central Search Engine**** Barbara's page is located on the Rootsweb server, but many County Coordinators choose to locate their pages on other servers. Therefore, it would be impossible for Rootsweb to have a Search Engine that would cover all these pages. Paula, I've discovered the problem and misunderstanding.... You posted it on the Pike County Mailing List Dec 2, 2001. The Search Engine that you were using on the URL page below.....is ONLY for the Archives. When you sent your will to the Pike Co Mailing list, it did not automatically go into the archives. I try to keep up with the mailing lists (but since I tend to so many counties in GA, it is impossible). Everyone needs to send their data to me directly....so I can get it on-line in the Archives. The Search Engine for the Pike County List (and all others) http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Type in GAPIKE. Then search for "Jacob Cole" and your will comes up. I'm going to add it to the Archives right now....BUT if any of you have posted information like this to the List, please send it to me .....so I can be sure to put it in the Archives. The Master Search Engine is the BEST thing about the Archives and is why we encourage everyone to put their materials on-line there. But you have to send it to a "file manager" in order for it to go on-line. This isn't an automatic set-up, and you can't post it yourself. Same thing is true of anything you posted on the Query Boards....which includes Wills, Bible Records, etc. They have their own search engine... Looking for information about John M. and Harriet Holmes found on the 1850 Pike Co, GA census, page 222. The first son listed on the census is very hard to read. It looks like it starts with a V, age 14. The other two sons are D. W., age 10 and L. B. O., age 9. My Lebud L. Holmes is the son of these two and he married abt. 1852 in Spalding Co, GA to Martha Ann Huff. Was Martha the daughter of Whitfield Huff and Elizabeth Martin, also of Pike County and later Spalding County, GA? Any information on these two families would be very much appreciated. I am looking for the death, burial place etc of Harris Speir, b about 1801, Jackson Co, GA died ???????? Harris married Hannah Coker, 5 Jul 1821 Bibb Co AL, where did he go? his wife and unmarried children show up in the 1850 Chickasaw Co MS household of son-in-law and daughter, Isaac Thacker Bailey and Marian Speir Bailey. The 1851 will of his father John Speir, Pike Co. GA lists, "I will and bequeath unto my beloved son Haris Speir his heirs eight hundred dollars,...." so he died before then, but after 1840, I think. Any help is greatly appreciated.
