    1. [GAPIKE] Roll Call: TURNER
    2. Larry Tucker
    3. MATILDA SANSON TURNER was in the 1850 Pike Co. census with her children. Her husband, JOHN MITCHELL TURNER, apparently died between 1846 and 1850. I have not been able to find them in any earlier census. Their children were: Archibald b. abt. 1833, possibly never married, maybe moved to LA John Mitchell---b. 1834, married first Mary Ellison and then Mary Melissa Clark, died in TX Charity Eloise---b. abt 1837, married James Snead, died AL Amanda Louisa---b. 1839, married Hugh Jackson Hamil, died in AL Martha O.---b. abt. 1841, married Solomon Harrell, he probably died in war and she cannot be found again Mary J.---b. 1842, married Charles Dean and then James Upton, moved to AL and then TX, died TX Glenn S---b. 1847, married Lou Clark, died probably OK Most of these children married in Spalding Co. as in 1850 they were living in the part of Pike that later became Spalding. Does anyone know anything about this line? Does anyone know anything about JOHN MITCHELL TURNER, probably born about 1800-1806. He is found in court records in Jasper Co., GA in 1822 and is said to be a resident of Monroe Co. Nothing is found about him after that. Where did he come from? who were his parents? when/where did he die? I descend from Amanda Louisa and have much information on that line to the present. Will gladly share. Would love to find more about others of this line.

    3. Searching for information about any HAMILs that were in Pike Co. or surrounding area. HUGH and RHODY HAMIL were in the 1850 Pike Co. census. They were both dead before the 1860 census. I would be very glad to receive any tidbit about Hamils from the 1800s to the present. William and Paulina Hamil REEVES were in the 1850 Pike Co. census. By 1860 he is dead and Paulina is in the census. Their children were: Jonathan, Sarah, Cinthia, Asa, Hugh, James, Simeon, Rhoda, John, Jones (E.B.), Jefferson, David and Marion. Most of these children were married and still in the area in the 1880 census but cannot find them or their descendants after that time. I do have spouses and children for some of these and will be glad to share if that will help us to make a connection. I have quite a lot of HAMIL information and limited REEVES information. I am glad to share all I have and would love to find others researching these names.

    1. [GAPIKE] Roll Call: Harris, Pyron, Jones, Clayton, Allen, Hester
    2. Daryl Coleman
    3. Following are my surnames linked to Pike (and also Lamar) County, Georgia. HARRIS My Grandfather was James Walter Harris, born near Barnesville, Pike County, 1891, died 1948 in LaGrange, Troup County. He was the fourteenth of fifteen children born to William Taylor Harris (1847-1900) and Martha Frances Jones (1850-1927). My Great Grandfather William Taylor Harris (1847-1900) was born in Pike County, Georgia and died near Barnesville, Pike County. He was the tenth of eleven known children born to Benjamin E. Harris (1803-1859) and Susan Pyron (1809-abt. 1885). William Taylor Harris was married to Martha Frances Jones (1850-1927) in 1866, Pike County, Georgia. See below for more on Martha Frances Jones. My GG Grandfather Benjamin E. Harris (1803-1859) was born in Warren County, North Carolina and died in Pike County Georgia. He was married to Susan Pyron in Greene County, Georgia in 1829. Benjamin and Susan are buried in unmarked graves on what was the Harris homeplace in what is now Lamar County, just south of Griffin. Benjamin was the father of eleven children, and I know of at least 42 grandchildren, though there were almost certainly more. I mention this to point out that there are scads of Harris descendants out there, of whom only several have I corresponded with. JONES, ALLEN, CLAYTON, HESTER My Great Grandmother Martha Frances Jones (1850-1927) was born in Pike County Georgia and died in the same general area, which is today Lamar County. She and her husband, William Taylor Harris, are both buried in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Lamar County, just south of Griffin, Georgia. Martha (also known as Fannie) was the fourth of eight children born to William Riley Jones (1807-1869) and Mary Ann Allen (1824-1865). My GG Grandfather, William Riley Jones (1807-1869) was born "place unknown at this time" and died somewhere in the Pike County area. He was the oldest son of Isaac Jones (bef. 1783-1821) and Malinda "Milly" Clayton (according to my sources). William was married to Mary Ann Allen (1824-1865). Mary Ann Allen was the daughter of Robert A. Allen (1792-1876) and, according to my sources, Frances Hester. I know nothing about Frances and would like to know more if anyone can help with that. Robert A. Allen, known as "Major", is reported to have been the son of Josiah Allen (abt. 1769-abt. 1716) and Elizabeth Browning (abt. 1775-1850). Well, I would love to correspond with anyone who can offer additional information to me, or who would like more of my information. Nancy McLeod b.between 1824-1829 Married to O.H.R. or Owen N.K., Carden. d. sometime after 1880 unsure where buried. I believe Alexander is buried in an unmarked grave at the Midway Baptist church. I think this is the name of the church. I have heard that he ran a livery stable, and lived on what is now Liberty Hill Road. They said, that the stage coach ran up and down this road, and he furnished the horses for them. Anymore info on this family would be greatly appreciated! Also hello to Doris! 3. Need information on the following people: O.H.R. or Owen N.K. Carden, b. 1820 in Ga. Bought land from Andew Jackson Carden in Pike Co. Ga.1839. He married Nancy McLeod in 1843 in Pike Co. Ga. He and Nancy were listed in the 1850 census for Pike Co. Ga. They left sometime after 1850, and went to probably Tallapoosa Co. Alabama. I desperately need to find who his parents were. It is a possibility, that he could be the son of John Carden in Pike Co. Ga. originally from Va., or maybe a David Carden in Pike Co. Ga., born in Va. If anyone has any information or can help me find who my Owen belongs to, it will be greatly appreciated! More to come! Becky Carden, rec@hiwaay.net

    3. I am researching Elizabeth Frances Newman born April 1848 in Thomaston, Upson Co., Ga. She married first. William Henry Williamson bn abt 1843 in Pike Co. and died abt. 1881-1889 in Pike Co., Ga. I'm unable to find a record of their marriage of about 1868. I'm also unable to find a record of William Henry's death. He was supposed to have shot himself due to change of imposed life style after the civil war. Elizabeth Frances was apparently orphaned about 1853 or before and along with possible sibblings; A. Jack Newman, Sarah A.M. Newman, L. Mary Newman, David Jonathon Newman, and Tom Newman went to live with possible Uncle Dave Newman and wife N. L. (Nicey) ?. This family was in Upson Co. in 1860 and in PIke by 1870. They resided in Pike County until about 1912. After William Henrys death, Elizabeth Frances remarried abt. 1881-89 to George Tillman Bailey, an old school friend from Upson County that had since been widowed. They then migrated with some of both their children to McCurtain Co., Okla. and died there. I've no record of Elizabeth and Geo. Tilmans marriage. A list of Elizabeth Newman and Henry Williamson children: Virginia Ellen; William Jackson; Viola; Julia Ann; James Monroe; Nancy 'Nicie' Matilda, George Henry and Ernest T. 'Tete' Williamson. Elizabeth and Geo. Tillman had no children together. George's children by previous wife known to me is: William C. 'Billy', Carrie, Elizabeth 'Levissa', and Drewery Bailey. I hope some of these families are being researched - I would love to hear from you.
