-- M.R. SIMS (Malachi Reaves Sims) m. Frances BOTTOMS on Dec.22 1842, by Justice of the Peace HARTSFIELD in Pike Co. GA. Though we have not, at this time, made a connection between M. R. and Frances to the Pike Co. SIMS and BOTTOMS, research shows that these three families (SIMS, BOTTOMS and HARTSFIELD) associated with and were intermarried within the immediate generations (sources: marriage records and land records). There were brothers in Pike Co., Mark and Martin SIMS, one of whom we believe could be M. R.'s father, since M. R. named two of his sons Mark and John Martin. We feel certain that a family connection exists but have not yet been able to prove this. After the birth of their eldest child, James M. SIMS (b. 1844), they moved to Barbour Co. AL between 1844 -1846. Frances died after the birth of her fifth child in 1853. The baby followed her to the grave just two months later. In the 1850 Barbour Co. AL Census, it shows that M.R. Sims was born in GA c. 1823 and Frances was born in SC c. 1824. There was a Mary A. BOTTOMS, aged 32 living with them, also born in SC c. 1820. We believe this to be Frances' older sister. Their children were: James M. SIMS b. 1844 & m. Francis Viola VINSON Mark Washington Sims b. 1846 died unmarried in Civil War Mary Ann Elizabeth SIMS b. 1847 & m. Thomas E. Atkinson John Martin SIMS b. 1850 & m. Mary M. Adams Sarah Elizabeth SIMS b. 1853 infant death After Frances' death, M. R. migrated to Dale Co. AL where he remarried and continued to raise his children and a second family. They had several children before she died at Zebulon in Pike County, where the Taylors and Jeffries came from. If anyone can tell me anything about this family, please let me know. My ALLEN ancestors are Drewry (died 1828 in Pike County), Abraham Stokes (died 1893 in Pike County) and Sarah Frances Allen. Sarah Frances Allen married John Ray Sanders in 1855. John Ray Sanders' parents died in neighboring Alabama when he was a small child and was he was raised by Leonard Worthy in Pike County. John Ray Sanders served in the 44th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War. After the war John Ray and Sarah Sanders moved to Arkansas. Would like to correspond with others researching these families. Jim, I am connected to Drewery Allen. Josiah Allen, who married Elizabeth Browning, was my fourth great grandfather. Their daughter, Mary Ann, married Wyatt Hester. Their daughter, Mary Ann, married David Green Heflin, Their daughter, Amanda Elizabeth, married Charles Alexander Gordon. Their son, John Morgan Gordon, married Josie Kate Weeks. Their daughter, Margaret Ruth, married Milton Adair McCleskey. I am their daughter. I am one of several Heflin researchers who haven't been working on our Allen very long. One of our members returned, recently, from Pike Co. where he got copies of some deeds and wills. The Pike Co. names that I am researching are Allen, Browning, Heflin, Hester, Bevil, Ellis, and Boman. My Brick Wall - who were the parents of Francis Marion Crawley, born 1837? My Francis Marion Crawley appears in the home of James and Mahala Crawley in the 1850 census of Pike County and a male child less than 5 years of age was in this home for the 1840 census in Pike. James and Mahala Crawley would have been 60 and 52 years of age at the time of his birth. The 1880 census shows Sarah Crawley (proven daughter of James and Mahala Crawley) in the home of Francis Marion Crawley as "aunt". Their advanced ages at the time of his birth and the 1880 census point towards James and Mahala being the grandparents and not the parents of Francis Marion. A thorough search has been made of available Pike County courthouse records (guardianship, estate, bastardy bonds, etc.) to no avail. All Crawley's in Pike at that time have been accounted for except for a Henry Crawley, who shows up in one early tax digest and then disappears. I am seeking information on Tramel/Trammel families that lived in Pike County Georgia beginning in 1830, some moved away around 1860, some remained in the area. Also I need someone who lives in Pike county to do a look up for me. I have been told there is a will for Mary Ballard, in Will Bood C: signed 1 August 1851, probated 3 November 1857, the person that told me of this will says she (Mary Ballard0)was wife of A.B. Trammel & had a daughter Jane., but I believe Jane was the wife of A.B. Trammel and Mary Ballard was her mother.
