Janell, An article on Drewry Allen in the "History of Pike Co., Ga." states that Josiah Allen died in 1816 or 1817. If you are researching Mangham's in Pike County, specifically Willis Austin Mangham, William Decatur Mangham, James William Bud Mangham and his wife Essie Banks Mangham, please email me privately. There was a front page article on this Mangham family in the Pike County Journal-Reporter on June 5, 2002. I hesitate to post it on the list due to copyright rules, but will email a transcription to anyone who would like to read it. Lynn List Admin.
Billie, I have some Barrows, but can't find anything on them. I have a Mary Barrow, b. 1775, and married to Stephen Stephens. She was born in Ga. I believe she may have died in Heard Co.? Also, she had a sister, by the name of Sarah or "Sallie", and she was also married to a Stephens man. Where were your Barrows, orginally from? Becky Carden
Lanny, Maybe I missed this earlier but is there a connection between James Pyron and William Pyron, who married Elizabeth Browning Allen? I'm descended from Josiah and Elizabeth Allen and looking for a timeframe in which Josiah died. If we had a date for that marriage, or knew if Elizabeth & William had children, those facts would help "guesstimate" his death date. Lynn and fellow researchers, I have the following information on James Pyron and his family. Most of this information came from a black composition notebook in the DAR section at the Ga. Archives and was written by Mrs. John Dance (Frances Pyron) in the 1930's. She was the granddaughter of James Pyron and Elizabeth Cox. Recently I read that some materials at the Ga. Archives submitted by researchers was off limits or had been destroyed. These records may not be available anymore, but I do have a photocopy of them. James Pyron was born on Sept. 8, 1816 and died on June 6, 1867. He married Elizabeth Ann Cox on Aug. 3, 1840 or 1842 in Henry Co., Ga. She was born on April 20, 1823 in Lexington, Ga., the daughter of John Morris Cox and Mary Blanton Hawkins. Elizabeth died on April 21, 1910 in Kennesaw, Ga. Mrs. Dance writes that after the birth of several children, they moved to Dalton, Ga. where he was agent for the W and A Railroad. From there they moved to Acworth, Ga. In the 1850 census, they were enumerated at Dalton, in Murray Co., Ga. I have a copy of a picture of James Pyron which was owned by my great great grandmother Susan Pyron Harris, his sister. On the back of the original picture is written - James Pyron died at Acworth on June 6, 1867, age 51 years, 7 months, 28 days. Children: l. Charles William Pyron - b. May 13, 1844 and served in Co. A, 18th Regt. from Cobb Co. "Acworth Infantry" of the Confederacy. Record reads: Private April 1, 1861. Surrendered Appomattox, Va. April 9, 1865. 2. Thomas Jefferson Pyron - b. Feb. 11, 1846 in Henry Co., Ga., d. June 28, 1906. He married Sarah Buchanan on May 10, 1868 in Cobb Co. She was b. Jan. 5, 1850, d. March 13, 1918 in Atlanta. He was also in Co. A, 18th Regt. of Cobb Co. known as "Acworth Infantry." His record: Private April 1, 1861. Wounded in left leg at Sharpburg, Md. Sept. 17, 1862. Pension records show he was permanently injured, while driving an ambulance, June 1864. On detached duty Jan. 30, 1865. 3. James Madison Pyron - b. Nov. 25, 1848, d. Aug. 16, 1896. 4. Mary Ann Pyron - b. April 16, 1850, d. March 28, 1875 and married Fletcher A. Northcutt on Jan. 12, 1868. 5. Martha Pyron - b. Oct. 11, 1852, d. April 1855. 6. John Wylie Pyron - b. July 11, 1854 and married Mrs. Harriet Fannin (widow) on Jan. 8, 1888. 7. Stephen Johnson Pyron - b. Oct. 3, 1857. 8. Lucy Angeline Pyron - b. Dec. 22, 1859, d. Oct. 13, 1874. 9. Henry Davis Pyron - b. Oct. 8, 1861, d. March 6, 1883. Lanny Cauthen

The Spalding County Fire Marshal sent me the following information: "I spoke with Ann at Griffin / Spalding Voter registration in reference to the Africa District and there formation. They are Militia districts formed in the late 1800's for land areas to provide 100 able bodied men in case for the need of defense. Spalding has kept the militia districts as voting districts and some of our fire districts are named after them such as Cabin and Akin districts....Anyway the Africa district is in the north central of Spalding County and was probable in Henry County prior to Spalding being formed in 1851 from portions of Henry, Pike and Monroe Counties. Janell, Oh, someone is protecting them and they are doing a very good job, of keeping them hidden! LOL I found that my Nancy was in Al. at least until 1903, and then she vanished, and we don't know if she died, or moved to another state. I know maybe one daughter and a granddaughter went to Texas, but I sort of have my doubts that she went out there! It just seems every time I think I might have a lead, it dries up! Some people believe if your ancestors want you to find them, you will, and if they don't, you won't, so they must really want to stay hidden from me!
