    1. [GAPIKE] 1892 Dickinson & Huguley Accident
    2. Lynn B. Cunningham
    3. The Pike County Journal Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia: October 28, 1892 Accidentally Killed Jerry Dickinson and John Huguley [sp] have been blasting rock for Will Wells in the latter’s well for some time past and on last Wednesday a blast went off prematurely and gave them a severe shock from which Jerry died in a few hours. Both were in the well tamping the dry powder with an iron rod. They were using a mutilated fuse which ignited from a spark from a stone and Jerry who was directly over the load received the full force of the discharge. One of his legs was broken, as well as one of his arms and his face was horribly mangled. He also received severe internal injuries and lived only a short time after the accident. John Huguly [sp] managed to crawl out of the well, but was badly hurt on the heel, as well as internally. His wounds, however, are by no means serious and he will be well, doubtless, in a short time. It is another case of monkeying with a buzz saw. (Transcribed 10/25/02 Lynn Cunningham)

Miller and Miss Callie Knight were united in marriage by Dr. I.L. Gunter of Henry county. The marriage was a quite one, only a few of the relatives and special friends of the contracting parties were present. (Transcribed 10/25/02 Lynn Cunningham)

Elliott, an old Pike county boy who lived near Weaver died in Texas last week of fever. Will had many friends here who will hear of his death with sadness. (Transcribed 10/25/02 Lynn Cunningham)

    3. The Pike County Journal Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia: October 21, 1892 An Unfortunate Family The death of Mrs. B.H. Lifsey, which occurred at her home here yesterday morning is the fourth in that family within three years. But this is not all; the husband is in a very enfebled [sp] condition while one of the sons is now an invalid from consumption. Truly such an affliction is trying, and the sympathy of their many friends go out to them in their great distress. (Transcribed 10/25/02 Lynn Cunningham)

    3. Actually, just read this: October 21, 1892 For Sheriff I hereby announce myself as a candidate for the office of Sheriff, subject to the wishes of the democratic party. If I am entrusted with the office, I promise to discharge the duties of the same faithfully. - J.C. Slade and For Commissioner I hereby announce myself as a candidate for county commissioner, subject to the action of the Democratic Party - J.M. Slade The family seems to be very politically oriented in Pike. Every candidate had to pay for an announcement to be run in the newspaper if he was running for office, because it was the "official paper" of Pike County. 3. The Pike County Journal Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia: August 19, 1892 In Memoriam When blooming youth is snatched away By death resistless hand, Our hearts the mournful Tribute pay, Which pity must demand. The death angel visited the home of Rev. W.H. Graham on last Thursday night and bore the spirit of John Graham, his son, from its earthly habitation. Many hearts were saddened by this death, as his kind and amiable disposition had won for him many friends, and too, he was so young – only 18 summers had passed over his head. The bereaved family of the deceased have the sympathy of the entire community. May his family not look upon him as dead, but to think of him as being in eternal bliss, preparing a grand reception for them later on; to think of him as being in fadeless chaplets, witherless gardens, and setless suns. Yesterday he was with you, tomorrow you will be with him. The yesterday is but a moment, the tomorrow is a long eternity. May we all make preparations to meet him. “Beyond yon blue walkin [?] Where all is peace and love.” - A Friend - Meansville, Aug. 15, ‘92 (Transcribed 10/24/02 Lynn Cunningham)
