James Weaver, a farmer by trade, was B: 8-8-1814 Georgia, D: 1-11-1894 in Pike Co., Georgia, M: Matilda Buck (or Beck) 3-20-1836 in Fayette Co., Ga.,, B: 3- 27-1820 Geogia, D: 12-5-1904 Pike Co., Georgia. They began their married life in Fayette Co., Georgia where they are shown on the 1840 and 1850 Fayette census records. They are residing in Pike County, Georgia in 1860, 1870 and 1880. Both state on the 1880 census that their mothers and fathers were both born in Georgia. James and Matilda both are buried at a church cemetery on the left as you travel from Zebulon going toward Barnesville on the Zebulon-Barnesville, Georgia road. There was once a church there but may not be there now. However, the cemetery can be seen from the road unless it's overtaken with growth. Matilda's mother may have been the Mary Buck, aged 50, shown in their household on the 1850 Fayette Co., Georgia census. The known family of James and Matilda was: 1. William Weaver, B: 1838 Fayette Co., Georgia 2. Mary Weaver, B: 1840 Fayette Co., Georgia 3. Amanda (Mandy) Weaver, B: 1843 Fayette Co., Georgia 4. James Franklin (Frank) Weaver, whose occupation was also that of a farmer was B: 1846 Fayette Co., Georgia (From tombstone, the 1931 Pike Co. Death Index states B: 1847.) D: 1931 Pike Co. M: Martha (Mattie) Floyd B: 1844, D: 1911 Pike Co., Martha (Mattie) may have been a sister of Ozella Floyd who married James Franklin's brother, Alonzo J. Weaver. James Franklin and Martha (Mattie) are both buried at a church cemetery as you travel the Zebulon-Barnesville Road on the left coming from Zebulon (same cemetery as parents). His tombstone is marked "Company G., 1st Georgia R.E.G. C.S.A." A. James B. Weaver, B: 4-9-1869 Georgia, D: 8--2-1921 Pike Co., Georgia, M: Mary Elizabeth Bush, B: 9-7-1871, D: 5-2-1957, both buried same cemetery as their grandparents, James and Matilda. The marker for James is really large etched with the words, "Woodman of the World" indicating his member- ship in that organization. (1) Bessie Weaver, B: 11-4-1890. Perhaps Ozella was a sister O Martha (Mattie) Floyd who married Alonzo's brother, James Franklin Weaver. A. Anna Weaver, B: ca 1880 Pike Co., Georgia. 6. TOMBSTONE INFORMATION FROM PIKE CO., GA. CEMETERY This cemetery is located on the Zebulon - Barnesville Road, Coming from Zebulon, going toward Barnesville, on the left is a small country church, very old, it had no name on it, the cemetery is by this church. It is nearer to Zebulon than to Barnesville. The Pike Co.History 1822-1922 states the United Baptist Church of Weaver was organized March 1863 with 13 charter members. The first pastor was John T. (or H.) Weaver and Weavers listed among the members were James, Frank, Margaret, Mandy, (Mandy probably for Amanda) and Matilda. It appears that this cemetery belonged to the United Baptist Church of Weaver. It also appears that the name later changed but there was no name on it at the time of our visit. J. B. "An extract of an Act passed by the Legislature of 1823 -- "Be it further enacted, that the site of the public buildings of the county of Pike is hereby made permanent, and shall be called by the name of Newnan." p. 10 "And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that from and after the passing of this Act, the following persons, viz: Samuel Mitchell, William Mitchell, William Myrick, William Johnson, and Hugh F. The Weaver, Cook, and Reaves families are lineal descendants of James Weaver." p. 98. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% The research of this family is respectfully dedicated to the memory of Mr. Jamie O. Ridley who lived in Zebulon. It is not our line but may be a branch of it. Mr. Ridley was very interested in learning more about his family and asked that I forward him a copy of what I might find. He escorted us to the cemetery and was so willing to try to help all he could so I did promise him a copy. However, when I sent the copy of all this to him, the letter came back marked "Addressee Deceased". It is certainly fitting that it should be dedicated to honor the memory of this kind and helpful man. He was born in South Carolina in 1772 and joined the church at Sardis, Pike Co., Ga., in 1827. The Saturday before he died, Brother William Morgan preached at his daughter's house. He seemed to enjoy the preaching very much. On Sunday he went to church and heard Brother Morgan preach again which was the last sermon he ever heard. He leaves three sons, a daughter and several grand and great children to mourn their loss, but their loss is his eternal gain. -Thomas Cook Additional Comments: Thomas Cook was married to George Wright's daughter, Susan. However, the book picks up with Elizabeth and John Knight's parents, and their grandparents on their mother's side of the family. I will cover the settling of Knight Sr's estate as well. I go into a great deal of detail in the book and you will see and know the "relationships" quite well. Elizabeth moves into her brother's plantation home after her husband, Isaac, dies. She moves there to care for her orphaned grandchildren, the Gills. You will see the Gills on the Census as well. The Gills living on the Knight plantation are the children of Andrew "Jack" Gill and Mary Ann Perkerson Gill, Elizabeth's daughter and Matilda's sister. So, that makes John Knight[Jr], Matilda's uncle. John Knight was the administrator of the Gill estate, and the Gill children sue his estate after his death. The court testimony, as recorded, is included in the book. I think the book will help to answer a lot of your questions for you, and I would love for you to stay in touch. Please get back to me after you have read the book. Since this is my first endeavor, I would like to have your feedback. Also, the book is 600 pages, but I have volumes of binders with researched information. I don't have all the answers, but what I have I will be glad to share. I spent 7 years researching and writing this book, but I wasn't able to trace all the lines. (You'll see why when you see the book). I will look, but I don't believe I have developed Matilda's line. Yes, this is interesting. I hope you won't be offended, but I think I am finding some of my husband's distant cousins. If ancestry is right, Matilda is my husband's first cousin, 2x's removed. I hoped this would be the end result. Marilyn Hill-Sutton Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thanks, Debra. This is good. Valerie (Johnson) Freeman Tustin, California If you think excellence is expensive, wait until you see the bill for mediocrity. In a message dated 7/1/2010 4:22:30 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time, archives@poppet.org writes: Valerie unfortunately no, there are no plans to do that as the county mailing lists are maintained by rootsweb and it is too much of a problem trying to sync up with so many different county mailing lists. These daily uploads lists now can be subscribed by states but not by county as these are simply pulled from the usgwarchives server statistics for what has been uploaded or modified in each state daily. http://www.usgwarchives.net/mailman/listinfo Debra Crosby -----Original Message----- From: gapike-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:gapike-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of VCJFreeman@aol.com Sent: Thursday, July 01, 2010 4:41 AM To: gapike@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GAPIKE] A List for Daily Uploads to the GenWeb Archives how awesome! If you are only researching one or two states, you might want to sub to those state lists. If you want to see the big picture, the daily uploads list is the one for you. To subscribe, go to http://usgwarchives.net/mailman/listinfo You will receive a daily email, with links, letting you know what has been submitted for the state you are interested in for research. This is handy, enabling you to see what has been submitted to the GenWeb archives without the hassle of a search.
