    1. [GAPIKE] 1895 Lizzie (Allen) Jackson Obit
    2. Lynn B. Cunningham
    3. The Pike County Journal. Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, June 14, 1895 Death On the evening of the 16th of May, as the sun’s last rays were fading, fading, to shine no more and the still watcher of night came stealing on, the cold messenger of death visited the home of W.T. Driver, and bore away on its dark wings his loving wife Lizzie. Yes, Lizzie is dead. Today her form quietly sleeps with the cold and lifeless clay. Ere long it will burst the tomb, shake off the cold, icy fingers of death, and with the dead in Christ arise in wondrous beauty and loveliness. She leaves a sorrowing husband, one sweet little girl, a loving mother and three fond brothers, together with a host of friends to mourn her death. How sad, how awfully solemn the words, “wife, mother is dead?” Kind friends come with comforting words. They tell us to forget. Forget? Ah! That can never be. Forgetfulness is not with life, but with the silent dead. But let us not grieve for her and say, thanks be to God our loss is her eternal gain. Husband weep not for your wife, we know that she has gone from you. We know that you will never more see her in this world, but cheer yourself with that sweet thought, no, dear brother, Lizzie can never come back to walk the path of life with you, but if you will live a devoted, consistent Christian life, you will by and by cross over the Jordan and forever be with Lizzie, in the presence of Jesus our Savior, where there is no more parting with wife, father, mother and children, but there to abide with angels ever more on that bright and shining shore. - Mamie A precious saint her work has done, And laid her armor by; A glorious victory she has won, A home beyond the sky. 2. Lynn B. Cunningham
    3. The Pike County Journal. Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, July 5, 1895 Surprised His Friends Assistant Ticket Agent Slade Returned with a pretty bride The many friends of Mr. A.B. Slade, assistant ticket agent of the Southern railroad at Macon, were agreeably surprised yesterday morning when he announced that he was married in Atlanta on Sunday, his bride being Miss Mamie McMurray, one of Macon’s prettiest and accomplished young ladies. The affair was a little romantic, but Mr. Slade has a large number of friends here who consider him worthy of such good luck. Miss McMurray had for some time been visiting Mrs. Mahaffey, her aunt, in Atlanta. Mr. Slade found Atlanta very attractive during the young lady’s visit there, and found it a good place to while away Sunday’s. Last Sunday, however, he announced to his comrades that he would visit Indian Spring. Taking the early morning train he went to Atlanta, and nothing more was heard from him until he returned that night with his bride. They had been quietly married by Father Kelly. Both young people are very popular, and are receiving warm congratulations. Mr. Slade is originally from Pike county. He has a brilliant future as a railroad man. – Macon Telegraph (Transcribed 11/05/02 Lynn Cunningham)

    3. This batch has been posted. Lynn it would be my guess, seeing that the parents objected that neither wanted to host the wedding in their homes. In which case the young couple, decided it being a pretty May, spring day, decided to marry outside in public. I can picture a pretty spring outdoor wedding. Just a thought! Bennett of Griffin, was united in marriage to Miss Zella Davis of Zetella, the ceremony being performed by Rev. J.A. Drewry. 2. Lynn B. Cunningham
    3. The Pike County Journal. Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, May 31, 1895 Mrs. Knight Dies Mrs. Francis H. Knight died at her home near Molena this week. Mrs. Knight fell about a year ago and broke one of her hips and since that time has been an invalid. This injury was, perhaps, the indirect cause of her death. Mrs. Knight’s husband, Brit Knight, was a good soldier in the gallant 13th Ga. regiment and was killed at the battle of Malver [sp] Hill in Virginia. Mrs. Knight was a member of the Methodist church at Molena and had many qualities of heart that endeared her to those who knew her. She was a pensioner of the state under the statute providing for the widows of confederate soldiers, and thus they, too, are passing away (Transcribed 11/03/02 Lynn Cunningham)

    2. Hi Jim, Yes, the Mountain Hill Green who married Mary Frances McLeroy was the eldest son of John Green/Nancy Daniel. John and Nancy had 15 children and many cousins and I have put together extensive genealogical and biographical records on the ancestors, kin, and descendants of John Green, which includes many McKinleys. Unfortunately, we know virtually nothing about the ancestry of Nancy Daniel but we do know that John parents were Isaac Greene and Margaret Wilson (the surname was from a prior marriage). We also have extensive records on the descendants of two of John's brothers. I would be glad to share information with you as we are always looking for new cousins. Arthur Lewis

    1. Re: [GAPIKE] More Than One John Green in Pike Co, GA
    2. Lisa, I need to correct one misstatement in my previous e-mail. Hartford Green was the 2nd son of John Green/Nancy Daniel. The 1st born of John Green/Nancy Daniel was Mountain Hill Green. Yes, Hartford, Richard, and Union were brothers. Hartford and Richard are both buried in Pike Co., GA. Union was killed during the Civil War and I am not sure where he is buried, but likely some where in VA. With regard to the middle name confusion, the tombstone record for Richard Green's/Parthenia Kirk's son reads John Hutson Green, June 13, 1856, Oct 9, 1928. I have found census records notoriously incorrect; however, John Hutson Green may have had a 2nd middle name not shown on his tombstone. We are confident that the father of our John Green was Isaac Greene, b. abt 1755. Many consider our Isaac to be the same as the Isaac Green s/o Jeremiah Green/Joanna Hunt, originally of Maryland. However, a record compiled by one of our Isaac's g-grandchildren claims he was born in Scotland. I looked at the listing of the children of Lewis Green to see if your Thomas had a brother named Isaac, but I can find no such given name in descendants of your line. If you have a record of an Isaac born about 1750 I would really like to look at that information. Arthur
