    2. Mrs. John Ford I would guess to be Mary Irene Cartledge, wife of John Hollon Ford. She died in 1929, as did one of their daughters. John was the son of Cornelia Borders and Clifford Thomas Ford. Cornelia was Mrs. C. T. Ford, the informant on the death of her 1st cousin, Walter Hugh Borders. Cornelia (Borders) Ford and Walter Hugh Borders were grandchildren of Abram Borders and Sarah Horton. Ross Passes Larris A. Ross died at his home in North Lamar about 8:30 p.m. May 2, 1926. Rev. G.R. Brown, his pastor assisted by Rev. J.A. Buffington conducted the funeral services at New Hope Baptist church in Pike County and he was laid to rest in the churchyard there. His health failed him several months ago but he and his family, relatives hoped for a turn for the better till a few days before the end came. He bore his illness in the true spirit of Christian fortitude and patience and died as he had lived in peace with everybody. His general demeanor in life was the very personification of modesty and reserve, faithful to his religious convictions, consistent and considerate in his homelife and persevering in toil for a livelihood. We meet with such characters only here and there, and rarely appreciate fully their worth in due season. He united with New Hope Church in August 1916, and probably had not missed but two or three regular preaching services in ten years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Margie, age 3 years, and Annie, one week old, father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Ross, of Lamar county, a sister Mrs. Bruce Smith, Experiment, Ga., and one brother, Homer Ross, Galveston, Texas. - A Friend File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/pike/obits/r/ross1691nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/gafiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb

    3. 15 January 2011 William A. Ross' dad, Charles Ross was my great-grandmothers brother...Here is some information about his siblings and grandparents. I will also send some more 'Ross Family' information on another e-mail.. [William A. Ross who according to Census information was born in March of 1860 or 1861. He was a son of Charles Ross and his wife Elizabeth both of with are buried at New Hope Baptist Church] A - Marriage OF Bill and Nancy. The 'Georgia Bill Childers Lineage' marriage. William (Bill) J. Childers married Nancy (Ross) Babb sometime in 1868. Nancy, older than Bill was born sometime during the year of 1844, in Pike County, Georgia. This marriage to Bill was Nancy's second marriage. The American War was now over and 'Reconstruction' was in progress. In the coming years, the reconstruction years would become some of the cruelest times that people had to endure. Military occupation and carpetbaggers for eleven years - until the year of 1876. William (Bill) J. and Nancy (Ross) (Babb) Childers had one child. This was: 1-William Mathis (Tom) Childers, born August 15, 1869, in Pike County, Georgia. Tom Childers was Nancy's third (3) child. Note: William Mathis (Tom) Childers was my (Larry Lee Childers) granddaddy. We do not have a lot of family information about Nancy. We do know that she was a widow before she married Bill and she lived somewhere in the Milner area with her two children. Nancy's first marriage was to Tom Babb. Tom and Nancy had two children. These were: 1- Mary Jane (Sis) Babb. Born February 1, 1862. Died May 4, 1937. 2- Martha (Dump) Babb. Born _______________ Died May 11, 1936. Nancy's husband Tom and his two brothers Jim and John Babb had entered the Confederate States Army and during the many battles of that American War, all three were killed. It is possible that after Bill's and Nancy marriage, they continued to live in her home until her death. Through research, we have found out information about Nancy (Ross) (Babb) Childers' parents, her grandparents and her siblings. Also some information about the Babb family. Nancy's parents were: Matthew F. and Sarah (Oliver) Ross. Matthew was born sometime in 1804 in Pike county, . Georgia. Sarah was born sometime in 1816, presumed to be somewhere in Georgia. . CHILDERS FAMILY LINEAGE THE NEXT GENERATION - WILLIAM J. CHILDERS (cont). Both Matthew and Sarah are buried in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetary, in Pike County, Georgia. From family information, she died during the childbirth or shortly thereafter. Bill and Nancy's son was born on August 15, 1869. They named him William Mathis (T0m) Childers, perhaps William after Bill and Mathis after her . dad -Matthew. We are not sure why they called him 'Tom', perhaps after Nancy's first husband - Tom Babb. We do not any record where Nancy was buried. Perhaps in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. This is where a lot of her family members were buried. After nancy's death, Mary and Martha Babb went to live with their Babb grandparents (Tom's parents) in Henry County, Georgia. Tom Babb's parents names were Colvin and Louvire (Elevia or Alevia) Babb. Tom babb's grandparents were Kellett and Rebecca (Abercombia) Babb. Since Bill was single and Nancy was gone, his parents James Jackson and Elisabeth (Bragg) Childers took care of the infant baby - Tom Childers. In the 1870 censes, Tom was listed as Thomas, being nine months old and still living with his Childers grandparents. From family information, it is told how he was sometimes fed with a 'sugar tit' - a soft white cloth with sugar in it and at times used also as a pacifier. William J. Childers died sometime between 1900 and 1910, in Okolona, Arkansas. He is buried in the Bethel Cemetery at Okolona (clark County), Arkansas. Jesus! Jesus! There is something about that name. Kings and Kingdoms may all pass away... Jesus, remains the same.. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <GAPIKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 14, 2011 8:11 PM Subject: [GAPIKE] Looking for a Ross burial in Pike County > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: harrisbrewing > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.georgia.counties.pike/1522/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Hello, I am looking for the grave of William A.
